A heart-warming story
......

A desire to help

The couple returned to their home in Los Gatos. Betsy says she couldn't stop thinking about the village and Alweet's dream. "It kept niggling in my head. It wouldn't go away." Nine months after they first met Alweet, Betsy sent an e-mail, saying she might be able to help.

That e-mail shifted the Fullagars' lives. They would travel to South Africa every couple of months (24 hours flying and a seven-hour drive to get to Boxahuku).

......

We have a library

The grand opening took place on June 4. Hundreds of children and local dignitaries attended. Speeches, including the chief's, were warm and grateful. When the chief and a student cut the ribbon, people strolled into the library and were delighted. The next day, Betsy taught 23 volunteer librarians how the books were organized and how to run a reading library. For now, books cannot leave the library.

In September, when she returns, Betsy will teach them how to run a lending library, and David, with some high-tech volunteers from Silicon Valley, will set up a computer lab in the second large room.

Since the opening, crowds come every day to the library, including teachers with students and high schoolers who come to study. They hope bringing literacy and knowledge to Boxahuku in such a concrete way will help Alweet lift up his village.
