Poll question: VOTE HERE! DU November 2009 Bumper Sticker Slogan Contest Finalists
Edited on Wed Nov-04-09 08:17 PM by EarlG
Here are the ten finalists for the all-new Bumper Sticker Slogan Contest. It was tough narrowing them down!

Although she didn't make the finals an honorable mention goes to Arugula Latte for her entry, "I Won A Bumper Sticker Contest On DU and All I Got Was This Bumper Sticker With My Slogan On It."

Thank you to everyone who took part. Winners will be announced tomorrow (Thursday).

Please k&r so everyone gets a chance to vote!

5. People need to be reminded that Medicare and SS didn't just fall from the sky on us.
They need to know that the Democrats gave this to them! They don't know their own American history.

So let's tell the story far and wide, loud and clear. Nobody today knows. They just accept. I talk to shop folks, to my car mechanic, my dry cleaner, nobody knows...they have been so brainwashed by Republicans they have no idea...we have to change that and we will. I have noticed less resistance, esp. with theyoung guys a my mechanic's garage, that they "get it" with hcr. Now they are talking about what they're going to get out of it and how much it will help them. It's different. The conversation has changed and I credit Obama and the Dems for doing that. We're no longer in the old mode ofthings with hcr. Things are beginning to sink in...

16. And don't forget Truman who got through so many veterans benefits.
Funny, nobody was yelling about big government taking over your private university!

11. I was equally torn between "If you like.. thank and Democrat" and
"Owning a gun... is a privilege". I voted for the latter because a) the former is already winning in a landslide, and b) it's a thought-provoking bumpersticker, one that you actually have to think about for a second before it's meaning sinks in. Of course that means it's also far too nuanced for Republicans, so it would be useless as a re-education tool, but still.

22. I was seriously torn between those two. I chose "thank" for one reason only--
the folks who need to understand "right and privilege" never would be able to.

Still, I LOVE that one.

24. "Owning a gun..." puts it in terms even the stupidist conservative can understand
Much better than the Medicare/SS one. My swing-vote parents just got an e-mail that's going around claiming all those gubmint programs don't work and are broke.

14. How about an edit?
I admit it, I'm obsessive about editng my work (although you may not know it from my posts here - anonymity has its advantages). It looks like the slogan I "wrote" is winning and I'm a bit amazed, flattered, etc. I "stole" it from the one that goes

If you love your freedom, thank a vet.

So... Would the slogan be better as

If you love your Medicare and Social Security thank a Democrat (change underlined)

???

Or maybe I should leave well enough alone and go back to bed. Greater minds than mine can sort this out.

30. I voted for the Wall St. one,
but I really like the Fox News slogan. I might have to make a bumper sticker of that myself to replace the bushcheney doubleplusungood sticker I used to have.

31. I like the Glenn Beck idea, but
Edited on Fri Nov-06-09 02:36 AM by PBass
using the words CRYING and WATERS together is unclear IMO.

Glenn Beck's Crying Waters My Laughter Garden

would be better like this IMO:

Glenn Beck's Tears Water My Laughter Garden

Anyway, that's the one I voted for, because it's maybe the only one that is FUNNY. And funny is good, for bumper stickers.
