I'm pissed

It really sucks that we live in a society where the majority can vote to take away the rights of a minority. I feel absolutely sick about it.

1. It's not absolutely over
There could be a legal challenge to the vote and it could be taken up with the courts. The right to marry is fundamental.

And they did in this case. It is totally wrong that anyone's civil rights can be put to a vote by anyone else.

they also think their rights are being taken away. The key is not being pissed but continuing to work for change in a constructive manner. Progress is clearly being made compared to 20 years ago - its going in the right direction.

Some portion of us think that the law is there to protect the people, doing as little to infringe on the rights of the individual as possible. This is the "where your rights begin my rights end" thinking.

Another portion of our society believes firmly that our laws, and all laws, are based a set of suggestions (under the disguise of an archaic word) in a book of myths - based on some history, as most myths are.

I think unless we fix this root problem there will be many other outrages to come. We need to decide, as a whole, which is it. Apparently, according to the myth-followers, some human beings are not really properly human, and don't deserve human rights.

7. The Constitution decided 'which it is'
long ago. Our laws come from secular sources, not from any book of myths. It is decided already and it is not up for discussion. The Constitution not the Bible or Koran.

8. I'm aware of this - but we need to let our politicians know
Then our politicians, and media models, need to tell everyone in no uncertain terms that this is the case. Everybody bends over backward for the extremists at home, yet we shake our fist at foreign governments that do the same. It's a major problem, and it needs to be cleared up.

The myth followers are attempting to change history everywhere you look, even in universities. History is written by the victors - I fear a 1984-style scenario on many truths if they are not put in their place.

AMENDMENT XIV

Passed by Congress June 13, 1866. Ratified July 9, 1868.

Note: Article I, section 2, of the Constitution was modified by section 2 of the 14th amendment.

Section 1.
All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Seems like a violation by the State just occurred.

a protected class eligible for 14th amendment protection .... yet.
