Dumb question: Can't the Maine state legislature just thumb its nose at the Gay Marriage referendum
and pass a law that overturns THAT referendum passed law?

1. Assuming it's not a state constitutional amendment...
...they have the legal power to do it, but they won't. Politicians are skittish by nature and they will not pass a law that was just struck down by a majority of the voters.
