Drove the HP and Lucent product lines into the ground by creating a virtual profit shareholder empire based on acquisition, off-shoring, and spin-offs rather than production and resulting in 10's of thousands of lay-offs. No company has really wanted to touch her for a good 5 years or so; she had to re-image herself as a "CEO consultant" and network like hell to start getting taken seriously again. That's probably why she is willing to raise her blow-dried head above the corporate lobby/think tank pit she's been hiding in - she thinks 4 years is long enough for Californians to forget how badly she screwed a company that would have been a major middle-class jobs employer in the state. Globalization is her mantra. Protectionism stifles innovation. Minimum wage is a perfectly reasonable place to start a workforce that requires skills and training. Hire more H1B workers, that helps a company's ability to compete. If workers want benefits, they can buy them. Pensions are a thing of the past, they can purchase company stock and manage their own retirement plans - But she needs - and deserves - her perks and her golden parachute, even if she's made poor management and financial decisions that drove her company's market share, reputation, and stock down to half of what it was before she took her board position and became "the most powerful businesswoman in America". And drove Compaq, HP, and EDS into a ditch that it took her removal to pull those companies out of.
Princess Carly has had less contact with the average working Californian in her privileged life than Arnie did - which is odd as she started out managing production lines out of college. She has shown over the years that she is perfectly willing to set workers and customer needs to the side for "the corporations", as they aren't really people, they are tools in her personal boardgames.
