The HS is sending the kids home immediately because of a bomb threat. You would THINK kids would know that their calls can be traced and they aren't going to get away with that shit anymore. That isn't a simple "is your refrigerator running" joke - it is a serious crime.

1. When I was in high school we were evacuated only once.
It was shortly after sept 11th.

Anyways, I was buddies with the principal's sons and asked the principal if they receive threats like that often, as I've only ever been aware of it once or twice. She said they receive threats ALL THE TIME... like almost weekly. It's their job to determine what is a credible threat and what is not. They rarely did school evacuations and pretty much never sent kids home. She told me that alot of students don't realize, but they'll do hallway/locker sweeps when kids are in class (lockdowns w/out announcing the fact).

2. I just got the robo-call from the school - more information...
They evacuated the building - students and staff. Apparently they're taking it seriously.

It is still a really stupid thing to do. There's no way to hide a phone call now. Even a TracFone can be traced by the information you use to register it, unless you put in fake information. I doubt the kid who called it in went to that much trouble.

3. Schools have to take all bomb threats seriously.
My school had a few pranksters in the '70s. But they didn't send us home when we got bomb threats. They just filled up the buses and had us sit there in the buses until they were done inspecting the school.

4. I think it all depends on the school.
I went to a private high school.
I'd imagine the administration had much more latitude in dealing with such situations versus a public school.
