Message to Democrats: GIVE US A REASON TO VOTE FOR YOU!
This is inspired by this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=6923325&mesg_id=6923325

We have top Obama Administration officials with very close ties to the corporations that were instrumental in almost bringing down the worldwide economy. WHY?

We have a majority in both houses, yet we can't seem to get something simple like health care reform passed. Dems keep reaching across the aisle, compromising bills in the process, THEN THEY DON'T GET ANY REPUBLICAN VOTES ANYWAY. WTF?

We have a President who says he's a "fierce advocate" for gay rights, yet the only thing that's happened so far is a hate crimes bill has been passed. Yes, that's great, long overdue, but gays are still discriminated against in America. They do not enjoy the same rights as others, and they are still losing jobs in the military. This is fierce advocacy?

The Republicans started two wars based on lies, trashed the economy, doubled the deficit, outed a covert CIA agent, spied on us and lied to us about it, tortured people on our behalf, ruined our reputation around the world, wasted money on no-bid contracts for their cronies, and generally acted like they were on a Roman Holiday during their 8 long years of control.

And now, after sweeping wins in 2006 and 2008, the Dems still can't get their shit together. Once again, are they going to hand everything back to the GOP?

GIVE US A REASON TO VOTE FOR YOU!

Please send this message to your Democrat in Congress and to the White House today. Let's use yesterday's election to motivate Democrats and remind them we will not support them if they don't do what they were elected to do THE LAST TIME THEY WERE ELECTED.

No more terms if you can't do the right thing this time. We need a reason to vote for you, and catering to the right isn't going to do it.

10. Yes.
Strong Public option. And don't go buying the GOP talking points about this being a voter referendum on healthcare reform. That referendum was November of 2008, you know when we elected a president. Well that and almost every single poll that finds Americans want a Public Option (if not an all out universal single payer Canadian style program).

5. I Was Thinking Of This Very Idea On The Way To Work...
this morning. Sadly, I think Dems are going to misinterpret what's going on and drift farther rightward.

7. Excellent Post. This election was more a referendum on Democratic
Party--the Democrats on the Hill than Obama. The Public
has not the foggiest notion of what they stand for and
what they are trying to accomplish.

Right now they have permitted the GOP to define them
as Wall Street and Big Business Cronies.

I said exactly the same things written here. and said that i only hope Dems in congress do not take this election as a sign we must move to the right, that to the contrary, a lot of us stayed home yesterday was because they didn't give us a reason to suppor their lame ass attitude.

i went off on that poor girl. She politeley stated she would refer msg to the DC office.

9. Just got an E-mail from a friend. She said everyone at her office is saying
that when the Democrats bend over backward to accommodate the Republicans, it just legitimizes the GOP's "concerns." If the Dems would just say, "The Republicans are not interested in helping the American people, they are only protecting the health insurance industry, which doesn't need help because they've made $$$$$ profit over the last ten years."

They could also say, "Tax cuts don't work, obviously, since after 8 years of Republican tax cuts, our economy still crashed and burned."

And they SHOULD say, "We were given a mandate by the American people in 2006 and 2008 to reform health care, end the war, and restore transparency to government, and that's what we're going to do. The Democratic Party works for THE PEOPLE, not the corporate interests, and we're going to do what the people voted us into office to do."

Seems easy enough to figure out. But somehow I'm sure they'll take a different message away from it.
