Edited on Wed Nov-04-09 01:05 AM by sabrina 1
If only Palin/Beck/Limbaugh/Fred Thompson/Dick Armey and their teabaggers had stayed away! Republican Dede Scozzafava probably would have won the seat Republicans have held for over a century!

I guess we owe them a big round of applause!

1. Oh Happy Day!

I turned off the News because all they were saying was what a big day it was for the Republicans in VA.

What is the real truth ~?

4. Dem won in California also.
That was expected, but this race, this is a historical win for Democrats, as no Dem has won that seat in over a century. And the teabaggers made it happen!

It's definitely a thrill in the sense that we would have to listen to the teabaggers boasting about winning against the Dem for years. The truth is even if the Dem had lost, as expected, it still would have been a Republican loss. But they were already spinning it.

So we owe them a great big 'THANK YOU'!

24. How are the M$M dogs spinning it ~
All I hear on my TV is how the elections yesterday were a negative for the Democrats and Obama. Spin, spin, spin.

This is the first I've heard about the Baggers getting sacked.

27. I don't know how the MSM is spinning Dems winning two
seats in Congress, or how they've reported on this race today as I haven't had a chance to listen to them.

All I know is that until last night, the MSM was focusing on this race, making a big deal of how powerful the teabaggers were in the party. How they were influencing the party who they more or less forced to back THEIR candidate after driving out the Republican.

A lot of thanks have to go to the Republican, Dede Scozzafava too for endorsing the Dem after being treated so badly by the Republicans who basically got scared of the teabaggers and dumped her for an idiot of a candidate who didn't even know anything about the district. She definitely helped Owens win as she remained on the ballot, giving her supporters somewhere to vent their anger at the teabaggers and the party.

The media made a big deal over this race. So, if they're not doing that now, and inviting back all those grinning, sneering, teabaggers to explain why anyone should pay any more attention to them, then it just confirms how useless they are, not that we needed any confirmation.

2. The fact that it was as close as it was may be even better than a blow out.
That is, if it does actually embolden them elsewhere in the country. The more people like that who manage to overtake the "moderates," the better off progressives may be in the long-haul.

9. Well, yes, but then again, if they couldn't win in this
solid Republican district, I don't know where they can win. They were so certain too. They were warned by Newt Gingrich that even if they won this race, it would not mean anything much in the long run, as they needed to attract more moderates. But they were not having any of that. They were on a mission to kick out 'liberal Repubs from the party' and no one, they thought, was going to stop them.

The problem is now, the Republican Party, who were kind of forced to give in at the last minute, are going to feel emboldened that the teabaggers really don't have much power after all.

Some political strategists said it would have been better if they won and the party would have been split. What you are saying, actually. Maybe they are right, but it sure feels good to defeat them.

It's damn nice to see them get this slap in the face. But if we see more like this, it would be even better.

14. I know. I'm being very shallow and in the long run
it might have been better politically, if they won this race, as some of the experts say. But it really does feel good, as you say, to see them get slapped down ~ especially as they were so arrogant and so dismissive of the local people there.

I'll take the instant gratification this time ~ :-)

3. Biggest story of the day IMO
If governors races aren't local, I don't know what is, but this race was nationalized by the right-wing nut jobs and they lost, LOST, LOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

16. Lol, 'soggy' ~
Beck is probably going to get out his Vicks to make himself cry, speaking of 'soggy'. They will blame it on Dede Scozzafava who they already refer to as a 'liberal' and a 'rino'.

After he finishes crying he'll probably say that this race shows why they have to get rid of all the Rinos from the party.

They'll probably say it's better to have a real Dem win, than a fake Republican etc.

Newt Gingrich has been pretty silent since he endorsed Scozzafava and then she withdrew. The Repubs then got behind Hoffman. I was watching one of them tonight when he was asked how come he changed his mind about supporting a third party candidate. He had a hard time explaining the Repubs caving to the likes of Glenn Beck.

I'm interested in hearing what Gingrich will have to say about the teabaggers now that he is free to speak out.

15. I think they finally stopped using that term ... :-)
There was always a chuckle when Tea Party fanatics like Hoffman called themselves teabaggers at many of their loony rallies.

23. And They Will Deny It...A Good Thing...
It'll be fun to hear how rushbo, dreck and faux noise try to spin this one. To their horde they're sure to think it's really a victory cause they "vanquished" the RINO...and among themselves will spin that if it wasn't for "fraud" or some other boogie man that they would have won. The fun really really begins now as they're sure to believe their own press clippings and do this again and again next year...ruining chances to win Senate and House seats. Democrats can't remain complacent...had Corzine and Deeds worked to bring together the base that showed up last year, none of the GOOPers could have won.

The real surprise was in NYC where all of Bloomberg's money and influence was barely able to survive past yet another weak candidate. Now's the time to plan for next year...work to consolidate our gains of recent years and work to elect more progressive Democrats.

There's little time to bask in the sunshine on this one...the teabaggers aren't going away.

Congrats to Congressman-elect Bill Owens...

26. Very good post Karma Train.
Your point about getting out the base is absolutely true. And I think if the base had not been so disillusioned over the way Health Care reform is going, I completely agree with your assessment, no GOP candidate would have won. The numbers show so far, that the Republican turn-out didn't change much in Virginia, but the Democratic turn-out was far less than it was last Fall.

The victory in NY Dist. 23 can be attributed fully to the Teabagger invasion so Dems cannot take credit for that, nor can they expect to rely on it in 2010.

The bottom line is each party needs its base. Leaving the base out of the Health Care debate, and worse, ordering them to be quiet, was bound to back-fire. All those calling them 'whiners' are only adding to the possibility of huge losses in 2010

I don't get this catering to Republicans anyhow, who will never vote Democratic. The Party needs to rethink what they've been doing since the election and try to win back a very disillusioned base.

Meanwhile, winning this race was more of a 'feel good' victory over the loonie Beck/Palin brigade, than anything else.

Final results are interesting btw, Dede Scozzafava received over 7,000 votes, more than enough to have won combined with Hoffman's total.

The Republican Party also has to do some thinking, like how to get the teabaggers under control. Which doesn't look like it's going to be easy since Palin now claims that this race is 'not over'! So you're right about them not going away. She's going to be back in Dist 23 in 2010! And we all hope she means it, except of course, the Republicans
