Anyone who freaks out about the results of these elections...
Edited on Tue Nov-03-09 10:08 PM by WilliamPitt
...probably should get out of doors more often.

Seriously.

On edit: With the exception of the Maine referendum; that's very important. The rest of these races aren't "bellweathers" or "referendums." They're local races based upon local influences.

(Go Maine!)

4. Maine is the only one I am concerned about
Edited on Tue Nov-03-09 10:10 PM by bigwillq
NJ, VA and NY I could care less. I don't live there. But I do what equal rights for all people. I think there is also a ballot initiative on gay rights in Wash. State too.

5. Yea, but
the talking heads are trying to make this election a mandate on Obama, and it ain't. I would hate to see gay marriage get banned in Maine too, it's friggin' ridiculous that we as a nation are still bickering over this kind of thing. But this election is not a referendum on Obama or his agenda, despite what Faux is going to be saying.

8. Tweety is doing an interesting analysis right now.
From a Yankee Bash I assume was directed at KO, to pointing out the obvious "the economy is bad voters toss out incumbents." His big money comments were interesting, even if his Yankee analogy was very confusing. Not sure how this really reflects the 2010 elections because well it's 2009.

10. I hope Hoffman wins
Edited on Tue Nov-03-09 10:16 PM by WilliamPitt
It'll embolden the 'Baggers to try and knock off moderate GOPers in all sorts of House races. Either it'll weaken up the incumbents for Dem challengers, or it'll put wack-ass righties up against Dem challengers. Either way, we win.

Open civil war in the Republican Party is a good thing for the world.

There's you're frikkin' bellweather right there.

15. Wouldn't the smart thing for the Republicans to do is
Not let Hoffman into their Caucus. Say hey your not a Republican and we don't want you. It would seem to be the smart thing if you didn't want to lose seats in 2010 due to stupidity.

all i know is that the far right is scaring the shit out of the moderate republicans around the country. thank goodness the democrats do`t have purity tests for the local, state, and national candidates.

Edited on Tue Nov-03-09 10:23 PM by MattBaggins
We won't know until tomorrow for sure; but a Democrat winning in 100+ year red district is a nice touch. The very fact that Owens is in the lead is making me smile.

A red guy wins a red state... yawn
A blue guy with the name Goldman Sachs around his neck loses... oh well

18. ... probably lives in, or has friends or family in, VA or NJ.
Which is most of us. Mom and stepdad's weekend/summer place in NJ seems a lot less inviting, despite being direct oceanfront -- 'specially 'cause stepdad's a repuke. :puke:

19. there are some very important races to people, as shitty gov's can wreck states (Ohio & Taft)
also, I see you have remembered the Issue 1 vote in Maine, and there is also an expansion of Domestic Partners laws in Washington State going on, Referendum 71.

Regardless how any of these races mentioned in this thread go - it's not the end, by any means. The fight continues. And it has nothing to do with President Obama as they'll like to say repeatedly tomorrow about NJ/VA.
