I'm watching.

fyi: With only absentee ballots outstanding, 65 percent of Kalamazoo voters have approved Ordinance 1856 by a vote of 6,463 to 3,527, adding protections for gay and transgender people to the city's nondiscrimination ordinance. This margin is larger than the number of outstanding absentee ballots that are currently being counted. http://www.pamshouseblend.com/showDiary.do;jsessionid=4DD94E4474E5F93FFE83594992F68A76?diaryId=13924

66. What on earth is the problem in this country????????????
What is it about gay marriage that freaks people out -- even perfectly, otherwise-accepting liberal people? I can't make sense of results like this, and yes, I know it hasn't been decided yet.
When the courts grant gay marriage rights, the wingnuts scream how the courts are "usurping" the rights of the people and that the legislatures have to decide things like this.
OK, in Maine the legislature DID decide this, but it's still getting undone, it looks like.
This country finds a new way to piss on gays and lesbians every day, and it loves doing it, apparently.

I hope there's a turnaround in Maine so I can take my words back, but I'm not hopeful.

73. i pray no wins, but
i have been coming to the conclusion that the states route is not the way to go.

the suffrage movement broke off into two factions.

one working with the states to grant women the right to vote, had some success and a lot of heart ache.

the other decided to go the federal route via a constitutional amendment.

I think the ERA may be the best hope to stop this discrimination. if the ERA passed, one could not be denied the right to marry based on their sex.

Feminists and LGBT activists unite!

But I didn't see more than a few tens of thousands of votes from the bigger cities.

69. Whatever happens, we should bear in mind the that the strategic stituation is excellent.
I would be very worried if I were one of the anti-gay people. Cultural and demographic trends are definitely, clearly against them. Just ten years ago, the idea of a close vote in ANY state would be unfathomable.

130. Actually, the WA results are better
Approved 506,936 51.13 %

Rejected 484,567 48.87 %

Of course the entire east side of the state was completely against it, as well as pretty much all the counties on the west side that don't touch Puget Sound.

(so much for the illusion of Washington as a "liberal state", but those results are no surprise to anyone who lives here)

I had to read it a few times before figuring out how I would have voted.
