Compromise on Drug War?
What if it were legal to grow marijuana, possess marijuana, and give marijuana to an adult, but not to give marijuana to a minor, and not to buy or sell marijuana?

1. stop being so reasonable
We all know that clear, rational thinking has nothing to do with this debate.

2. Plus, take all the profit out of it
and what do you have left??
If I knew how to do the sarcasm thingy, I would.

3. How about legalizing it, regulating it and taxing it
using liquor sales as a model?

Of course, people will scream about the children, but those children have a wide open pipeline right now, thanks to the fact that it's all black market. A legal and regulated market would slow them down. A lot.

In fact, the whole drug war needs to be abandoned and all recreational drugs sold at pharmacies. Take the profit out of it and you'll bust the vicious drug gangs worldwide. Think about Mexico and Afghanistan, for starters.

There is little compromise on this one. The drug war has been lost for many years. The drugs won. The best thing we can do is co opt them and use the taxes on them constructively.

6. SO agree with you on abandoning the War on Drugs. I was high from the
time I was 13 until my late 30's, and the illegality of what I was doing didn't slow me down a bit.

Conversely, now that I actually LIKE being clean, I wouldn't run out and get high if they were legalized.

Bottom line, people who are going to partake will do it whether it's legal or not, IMO.

4. I think the only way they will 'compromise' is if the big boys can make gobs
of money off of it. It's always the money.

Although your suggestion sure does sound reasonable.

7. Why prohibit sales?
Many people who need it as medicine or want it for recreation are not able to grow it themselves. Should they be at the mercy of charity? Why? Only vintners should be able to have a glass of wine for dinner? Do you grow your own wheat, or is it gifted to you? All your method would achieve is to keep the trade illegal, for the trade would continue to fill needs.
