1. Nothing yet, Reported problems with the new machines. Big surprise.
And Rachel just talked to someone who said they think it might go Hoffman's way. Not good.

14. Well, we know the Republicans already lost Dist 23
Now it's between the tea-bagger candidate and a Democrat. It has been a solid Repub district for more than a century so no one expected the Dem to win.

Whatever happens, it is a loss for Republicans.

Gingrich backed the Republican last week, telling the teabaggers that even if they won in that district, it would be a short term win.

The GOP had to cave to Glenn Beck and reluctantly got behind the teabagger Hoffman. The Radio Talk Show brigade have pushed out Republicans. Hoffman's wife btw, is also a talk show host.

17. OH My
You have no idea how long I have wanted to be welcomed to DU!!!

This morning my husband and I went to our polling place and there were teenaged kids in the pouring rain handing out Hoffman literature next to the building. Our dem election watchers told them about the distance rule and they had to move. I'm certain they were paid. It was a school day after all.

Our area is peppered with Hoffman signs but it was also covered with Republican Barclay signs in 2007 when Dem Aubertine won State senate. Fingers crossed.

So glad to be here at last. I'm a DUER!

26. This is too good to be true
Somebody pinch me.

From the looks of things around here the last few weeks (posters, gatherings, chatter) Hoffman was going to walk away with it. I saw him on the local news for the first time this AM he could not make eye contact, did not know what to say with out 3 X 5 cards and I couldn't imagine him in any post of authority.

Come on Bill!

a real blow to the teabaggers. It's still early though. I did see comments from locals who were not too happy with the dirty politics brought to their district by 'outsiders' ~ so, these bullying tactics may backfire on them. Keeping fingers crossed ~

33. Just saw that, this is almost too good to be true.
Bill Owens Dem. 23,455 51.1%
Doug Hoffman Con. 20,116 43.9
Dede Scozzafava Rep. 2,294 5.0

That's with 31% reporting.

Looks like Dede may be taking those moderate Republican votes. Newt Gingrich was probably right when he tried to tell them they needed a bigger tent.

41. Thanks for the map. I don't know anything about
those precincts, which ones are already counted. 84% has now been counted and Owens is still holding pretty much the same lead. But still a way to go and depending on the make-up of the precincts, I suppose Hoffman could still pull it off.

Dede is still getting votes. She will be trashed by the teabaggers. But what the Party has to realize after this is that if Rush Limbaugh and his buddies had stayed out of this race, Dede probably would have won. Looks like the teabaggers may end up costing the Republicans what was a very secure seat.

With 84% counted:

Bill Owens Dem. 57,854 49.2%
Doug Hoffman Con. 53,603 45.5
Dede Scozzafava Rep. 6,241 5.3

I'm getting ready to celebrate ~ almost there!

42. The North Country News site is giving county-by-county results...
I'm in 3 DU threads at once right now ;)

Their totals are lagging behind NYT total count, but there can't be huge changes with the remaining districts left - some lean blue, some lean red, and roughly similar populations. It may get closer but I'd be very surprised for the lead to switch, and the absentee ballots probably won't change things either

But it looks like you may be right. The NYT is reporting that with 87% of the vote counted, Owens is still holding the lead. Not much change so far.

N.Y. District 23 Candidate Party Votes Pct.
Bill Owens Dem. 53,562 49.1%
Doug Hoffman Con. 49,661 45.5
Dede Scozzafava Rep. 5,949 5.4

This is really exciting. I don't know anything about the district regarding the precincts, how they vote, and those left to be counted. But I am picturing the teabaggers right now, biting their nails, swearing and cursing and it's a pretty nice picture.

If Owens wins, he will have defeated both Republicans and the teabaggers and will be the first Dem in over one hundred years to hold that seat.

In the other House election, California Dist 10, the dem is expected to win there also.

And from a quick look at the Legislature in NY, it looks like Dems are winning there too.

Let's see the media spin this election as a 'referendum on how disappointed every is with the Obama administration'.

Okay, I'm counting chickens before they're hatched, but this was an unexpected result in that District. And if Owens wins, we should rub it in the faces of the tea-baggers as much as possible. Rush, Beck, Palin, and Dick Armey. They were sure this was their night.
