Turnout high in Maine
http://politicalwire.com/archives/2009/11/03/turnout_high_in_maine.html

Said Dunlap: "We're seeing heavy and very steady turnout... I think we could be over 50%. We originally projected 35%."

1. Hopefully more of us came out for civil rights equality than against.

8. In my area all I saw were YES signs on people's lawns. :^( At the polls I was
one of 5 people voting. (Mind you we are a tiny village and it was mid-day.)

But since I haven't been in the more populated areas or to the southern part of the state I would like to think that what I have seen is not representative of the electorate as a whole. :hi:

a higher turnout is usually a bad sign. Going into that evening, Wisconsin was polling 50/50 but ended up 2:1 (60/30) against equal marriage rights.

I hope I am wrong.

6. Is that the only issue on the ballot?
No compelling races or other issues that might impact turnout?

Sorry... I've really only paid attention to VA/NJ/NY. I didn't even realize this was on the ballot there until last week.

One possible response is that I can't tell you how many times I've seen "low turnout" or "high turnout" announced online on election day, only to find out that was wrong when everything was counted. Sometimes it's wishful thinking, sometimes paranoia.

10. We also have a TABOR question on the referendum which would appeal to conservatives as well, so that
isn't in our favor unless the non-TABOR folks come out big to save the funding for various programs. The school consolidation issue is another hot topic, but who will vote which way is somewhat less clear. Yes, it deals with lowering costs (in theory) but it is also about losing local control of your schools. A mixed bag to be sure.

9. It's a toss up.
I really couldn't tell you. I voted absentee ballot over a month ago. There are other important issues on the ballot such as TABOR, school consolidation, medical marijauna... TABOR is the next biggest issue. I really hope I'm not disappointed by the results of this election. I don't want to be pissed off at my fellow Mainers.
