Boom goes the Dynamite! Jim Moran Calls GOP "The Taliban Ticket".

Always good copy, U.S. Rep. James P. Moran Jr. (D-Va.) likened the Republican ticket in Virginia this year to Afghanistan's radical Taliban movement in comments broadcast Sunday by WAMU radio.

At a get-out-the-vote rally in Fairfax County, Moran said: "I mean, if the Republicans were running in Afghanistan, they'd be running on the Taliban ticket as far as I can see."

Moran was talking about Republicans Robert F. McDonnell for governor, Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling and state Sen. Kenneth T. Cuccinelli II, who is running for attorney general. By some accounts, the three represent the most conservative Republican ticket to run in Virginia in many years. Moran's comments clearly were aimed to motivate Democratic voters to turn out on Tuesday and vote blue.

According to WAMU, McDonnell spokeswoman Crystal Cameron called Moran's remarks "negative" and "vicious." She also said Moran was seeking to rally voters who are unexcited by their own candidates, Democrats R. Creigh Deeds for governor, Jody Wagner for lieutenant governor and Stephen C. Shannon for attorney general.

5. This has clicked for me, and I like it.
It strikes the chord of truth as far as what I've found disturbing about these fundie conservatives' beliefs and actions.

And I plan to incorporate this description into how I refer to these people from now on. Thanks Rep Moran.

Caribou Barbie and the Taliban Ticket. Works for me.

7. Did Moran qualify his statements with policy examples?
Edited on Tue Nov-03-09 12:45 PM by BolivarianHero
I'm looking at the Freepturds and low-information voters who are responding to this article, and the reaction seems to suggest that without arguments to back it up, Moran's rhetoric comes across as being needlessly inflammatory.

Too bad...He's absolutely right, and the evidence that's out there should make it trivially easy for him to buttress his rhetoric with relevant examples...I'm from Canada, and even I know enough about Mullah McDonnell and Caliph Cuccinelli to know how nutty these guys are.

They seem like the sort of people who consider imprisoning queers, persecuting atheists, and banning sex toys to be policies that are in touch with what mainstream America wants...

Incidentally, I've held Rep. Moran in very high esteem since he stood up strongly on the side of civil liberties when the radical right went after Internet poker, which didn't do the GOPinheads much good in 2006 (bye-bye Jim Leach) or 2008.
