NY 23
I live in this congressional district (Oswego, NY) and have watched this campaign just "explode" nationally over the last 2-3 weeks. It would be very sad for us if in fact Hoffman won. What a mess! He has no political background and has even less knowledge of the local issues. In fact, the Watertown Times (Watertown, NY) editorial last week wrote that. John McHugh was a repub. (now sect. of the Army) but at least he knew he area well and the needs of the farmers and the constituents. There are 50,000 more registered Republicans than democrats in this district that has gone republican since the civil war. All the rw nutjobs poking their noses in our district need to worry about their party and stay out of local politics like this.Palin and crew probably can't find the district w/ a map! I watched their debate last week on our local ABC affiliate. All Hoffman talked about was being a Reagan conservative and he mentioned Reagan at least 15 times during the debate. Didn't anyone tell him he was dead? I'll be out tomorrow to vote for Bill Owens (oh, by the way after voting for the last 40 years in NYS with the old lever machines, we are a pilot area to use the new optical scan voting system). I'm not sure I trust anything but those lever machines. Any way, it'll be an interesting election to say the least both locally and nationally.

1. I think this is what's getting lost in all the discussion about the
GOP implosion - the people in the district could end up with a Club for Growth nutjob as their Rep.

I feel for you and let's hope for the best tomorrow.

3. Not so much in the 23
it's pretty well gerrymandered and solidly red. Solidly red some really stupid ways too.

The silly gun thing: My Pa and the NRA said to vote for the Republican.
Habit: Seriously I can quiz friends of mine on issue after issue and they will admit wholeheartedly that the democratic party is more in line with their views yet they will insist on voting Republican. It is the same brainwashing that Socialism is some great evil. Years of that "gosh darned it we have a tradition of voting republican around here" state of mind is hard to break.

Hell we a Repub Mayor in my city was arrested in an FBI sting trying to solicit sex from teen girls, A week later his chief of police was arrested for fencing stolen goods, and now this past week we have a supporter of the Republicans who is also local businessman, get arrested for allegedly molesting a 17 year old boy who was an exchange student in his home. Yet Democrats have the bad image around here.

4. Do you get a receipt after you vote?
Any way to do a valid recount if needed?

6. Here in St. Lawrence Cty, in the city of Ogdensburg, we are using new ballots for the first time.
No more lever machines which I think I trusted more. We have to fill in the oval above the candidates name. The proposals to be voted on are listed on the reverse side of the ballot and fill in the oval for yea or no. I wonder how many people won't flip the ballot over! If you don't fill the oval in properly, not filling it in completely or going outside the oval, may void the entire ballot. Sure hope no one with shaky hands tries to use these. Not happy about these ballots at all.
