Senator Hatch: Healthcare reform bills threaten survival of two-party system
By Michael O'Brien - 11/02/09 11:15 AM ET

The healthcare reform proposals currently before Congress threaten the existence of the two-party system, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) alleged Monday morning.

Hatch asserted that the health bills, which he believes is a "step by step approach to socialized medicine," will lead to Americans' dependence on Democrats for their health and other issues.

"And if they get there, of course, you're going to have a very rough time having a two-party system in this country, because almost everybody's going to say, 'All we ever were, all we ever are, all we ever hope to be depends on the Democratic Party,'" Hatch said during an interview with the conservative CNSNews.com.

"That's their goal," Hatch added. "That's what keeps Democrats in power."

1. So...
What's he saying?

That if the Democratic Party keeps doing what Americans want, and providing what they need, and the Republicans keep trying to prevent giving Americans what they want, and what they need, that we'll become a 1 party country?

Yeah no duh. That's really brilliant Senator.

2. This is the single best argument ever advanced by anyone to get Democratic support
for this bill. If Orrin Hatch believes this then this bill must be passed.

4. Hatch is right. If the Repos had a lick of brains, they would introduce single payer and
demand a vote today.

In fact they could completely embarrass the Dems by demanding an up or down vote on the floor on HR676, joining with the Dem co-sponsors and passing it. Then they could force the Democrats in the Senate to vote it down.

And who knows. If they got lucky, they could attract Sanders and maybe Kerry and Boxer and a few other sand force the Dems to filibuster to defeat single payer.

Luckily for the Dems, and unfortunately for the country, the Repos just ain't that smart.

10. BINGO, if they were actually honest in representing the people who voted for them
they would do something like this. Everyone knows they are not however.

The door is there, everyone knows they won't open it.

7. Hatch is badly in need of a shrink
I doubt if he is even vaguely aware that he has stated one of the strongest reasons that no one should ever vote for a Republican.

The only down side to his argument is that I really don't want to live in a country with a one-party system. Virtually every country that has ever tried this has become a dictatorship.

11. Hatch summarized "The bad thing about healthcare reform is that it is good"
He has been making this argument for a while now. Before it was going to be so good it would kill the insurance companies. Now it is going to be so good it will kill the Republican party!

YEAH!!!!!!!!
