she couldn't get the seasonal flu shot because they were out of the supply. Here is what the clinic said up in Northern California:

"We know this has already been a challenging flu season that has caused anxiety, frustration and anger for our patients. Unlike other years, when only the seasonal flu vaccine is produced, manufacturers are producing two vaccines for this flu season — for H1N1 and seasonal flu. At this time, vaccine manufacturers have stopped producing seasonal vaccine based on a mandate from the federal government to produce H1N1 vaccine. Unfortunately, we cannot control when we will receive our supply of either the seasonal or H1N1 flu vaccine. We are dependent on the vaccine manufacturers and, in the case of H1N1, distribution from the federal government to fill our orders. debating on whether or not to give it to my 1 year old. She is up to date on all of her vaccines, but something about this one in particular makes me uncomfortable. It isn't available just yet at her pediatrician's office, so I still have some time to ponder it. Of course, I will review all the info I can, and I will talk to her doctor about his feelings on it. I am not saying she won't get it, I am saying I just don't know yet. I don't want her to get the swine flu, but I also want to be as informed as I can. It is just so soon to me.

As a parent, it's always frightening to consider the possibility that your child may be that one case in a very large number that has a bad reaction, but it's even worse to consider the far greater likelihood that your child will become miserably and perhaps seriously ill if she remains unvaccinated. I was somewhat relieved when my daughter was able to get her first H1N1 dose and I'm hoping a booster will be available later on. I got an email from her pediatrician saying that they've run out of vaccine for now.
