either way, this will embolden the Freeper/Conservative types, but if they actually win the seat they'll think they're invulnerable. they've already got the national GOP running around kissing their ass and they're intoxicated by power. They can repeat this over and over in individual races but may (and probably will) fall apart in a general election. These internal contradictions in the GOP have been visible for long time and it was kind of inevitable that sooner or later they would face a major split in their ranks. In that sense, it's good as I would like the GOP to suffer collapse.

All the same, gotta be careful for what we wish for - these 'Twue Conservatives' are basically dangerous, fascist people. I think they probably won't have any lasting impact and will self-destruct sooner rather than later because they believe too much of their own BS to be competent, but other societies have been complacent about such threats and lived to regret it.
