Teddy would say at times, 'Never let the perfect be the enemy of the good.'
That was why he was such a good negotiator, and he got so much done.

That said, I don't know where the line is on health care reform. I know there won't be a bill that we consider perfect. However, I don't feel that what has been proposed is what I would call 'the good.'

There are so many people, moving parts, and nebulous ideas that truly knowing what is coming is impossible.

That is why I want single payer. There are probably some issues with it, but it is so much simpler. With a single payer system, I think it would be much harder to hide a lot of shit that I know is going to be worked into a different approach.

What constitutes a 'good' public option bill? If the PO is gone, is there any type of bill that would be 'good?'

1. We surrendered too much before negotiations and bought into the revenue neutral meme.
Even the Wash Post asked why the war can be bought on a credit card, but healthcare has to be revenue neutral.

2. Never let the marginal be the enemy of the good
That is just as true.

3. Why that is sometimes practical, it requires both a possibilty of
further probable incrementalism and that the players are honest. I'm not convinced both apply.

5. The perfect should not be the enemy of the good but this fight is now between...
the barely acceptable and the unmitigated disaster.

6. Would you prefer Aqua lube or Vaseline while we shove this cattle prod
up your ass? I guess it's better than the Bush option of no lube at all but it sure isn't the change I worked so hard for. Fuck em all! Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, won't get fooled again! The whole system is a big fucking con game brought to you by our multi national corporate masters and we don't stand a chance.

I've worked hard, really hard and played by the rules. I've marched in the streets since I was too young to vote during Viet Nam. I've voted in every election since Bobby Kennedy. My reps are all on speed dial and I call them constantly. I've I've signed all the petitions. I've walked the precincts. I've donated precious money. I've done everything I could do after I've dragged my exhausted ass home from yet another day of killing myself to try to keep a roof over my head and food on the table while my real wages have been shock doctrined.

What has all this work accomplished? My job is gone, my home equity is gone, my health care is about to become a republican, faith based plan (pray I don't get sick), my pension is all but wiped out and those at the very top get bonuses while being fellated by the "Progressive" representatives I've worked so hard for.

You know what? I'm done.

7. My question is, why are we so different from all the rest of the western world? Are we as a country
just incompetent or morally deficient relative to the rest of the west? Why does "compromise" basically mean "settle for less than people in all other western nations settled for"? (I'm not arguing with you by any means; I just thought this would be a suitable place to express these questions.)

9. Given a public option that is neither public nor an option--
--compared to letting people buy into an already working Medicare system. I'd call it the existent being the enemy of the non-existent.
