NPR poll (White House vs. Fox) being badly freeped
1755 posts, which is astronomical for an NPR story. There are more than just the usual suspects posting here.

1. Let it go
Sadly, NPR now stands for National 'Publican Radio, since they became whipped puppies during the Bush misAdministration. I sure as hell won't give to their pledge drives now. Maybe they would do some actual reporting in the public interest before, but now they have given that up. They have the worst of both worlds -- the thin bankbook of a liberal non-profit, and the compromised standards of a conservative sex pervert.

2. Sarah Palin is still winning an NPR poll from 2008
You might not remember that poll but many here do.....
it was a standing joke....... just like this one
which bogus.

You can load a computer with scripts such as 'Automator' on a Mac to vote numerous times and not even have to touch it.

LET IT GO.

Yes, the poll is bogus. It's the comments that I really noticed.

12. no, you can't
If you look closely at the source of the result page after a re-vote, it says "Thank you, we have already counted your vote."
Scripts to manipulate this poll must have a way around this.

3. Freepers are more into online polls since it's the only thing they can "win" any more
It's very quickly turning into "PBS pol# 538" - I'd just send them an email stating that their poll has been attacked by right-wingers and therefore is invalid. Remember, it was 51-48 in favor of Obama before the Freepers discovered it.

7. Ignore the 'hate' NPR trolls
NPR is mostly liberal and everybody knows it. Just because they have a couple of neutral/right-leaning commentators, they can't be trusted - it's ridiculous thinking.

It is subtle but insidious.

Compared to where they were politically when they started, they have moved far to the right.

So I can say for certain that you're full of it. I'm in the Boston area and people wouldn't put up with it if it was conservative - maybe in your area it's different.

Edit: now that I see you're from Mass, I can say with certainty that you're full of it.

15. Just look at that poll. *Shaking head* Fux Snooze has 3:1 support.
Unbelievable. Freeping isn't what's driving the numbers in this poll. Most of the people voting for Fux don't even know what a Freeper is. This is just a sad representation of the of the effectiveness of Fux to prey on the mental capacity of its followers. The flashy red, white, and blue graphics and over-and-over repetition of the phrase "Fair and Balanced" and the day's far-right talking points and the constant fear-mongering - well, it's just too much for their little minds to overcome.

A script can vote ~6 times per second. All those numbers tell you is that someone else had a similar script running for a longer duration.

32. Naw. That would just be an arms race.
You can implement measures to make botting more difficult, but someone with enough time on their hands can beat those too (and their cost per developer hour is less than yours).

I won't say it's impossible. Shareholder online Proxy votes allow one vote per share by sending a secret code by mail that can be used only once.

27. Update at 7 a.m., Oct. 31: "As Raw Story explains, the poll touched off a competition"
Update at 7 a.m., Oct. 31: I would like to say thanks to all those who were inspired to vote. As Raw Story explains, the poll touched off a competition. That's a good thing, in my opinion. These kinds of surveys aren't meant to be scientific. They're intended to stimulate discussion and give folks another way to express themselves. We certainly accomplished that.

Now, can I make a small request? Perhaps some who came here to vote and comment could come back on occasion and contribute again to the discussions? We value your input.

Thanks again,

- Mark
