Jon Stewart On Fox News War With The White House - Why Can't CNN Or MSNBC Do This?
Edited on Sun Nov-01-09 01:49 AM by TomCADem
For that matter, what about ABC, CBS or NBC? This is Stewart at his best destroying Fox in just a few short minutes. The question is why hasn't any so-called unbiased, let alone liberal, show done something similar?

###

Jon Stewart devoted half his show last night to the Fox News/Obama "war" sparked either by White House Communication Director Anita Dunn or the cable network's constant attacks on the president, depending on how you see it. The former accused Fox of acting on behalf of the Republican party, the latter accused the president of being Stalin. Apples and oranges.

Fox News Senior Vice President Michael Clemente struck back at the White House after Dunn's remark saying, "It's astounding the White House cannot distinguish between news and opinion programming. It seems self-serving on their part." (Full disclosure: I worked for Clemente at ABC News.) Fox went on to define its news hours as 9am-4pm & 6-8pm, parameters which exclude Cavuto, O'Reilly, Fox & Friends crew, Glenn Beck, Greta Van Susteren, and Sean Hannity from the news category and leave a bunch of people you've never heard of.

Stewart not only skewered Fox for this defense and editorializing during their designated news hours, but also took on the Obama administration for saying they are speaking "truth to power" by fighting with Fox. Stewart pointed out that they are in fact the power: "It's your job to f*ck up power, it's Fox's job to f*ck up truth."

2. Because Jon Stewart is smarter than anyone currently on just about all the "news" shows.
In addition, those guys do not have the courage to tell the actual truth.
Stewart can get away with it because his show is supposed to be a "comedy" show.
Obviously, the only way one can tell the truth in this country, is to make it
seem like a joke.
This appears to be particularly true when it comes to the truth about the media.

3. Because CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS & NBC are bought and paid for...
...and Comedy Central is a comedy channel.

I don't think that Stewart had ANY INTENTION from DAY ONE of "The Daily Show" for it to be a "funny" news show.

I think his INTENTION has manifested itself in the RESULTS...

...that it is often the best NEWS show on TV.

But you can't accomplish that if you are Fox, MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS...

...because you are a prostitute, and the $20 bill lies on the dresser in exchange for your services.

5. ? MSNBC has completely trashed Faux over this issue
Both KO and Rachel had great segments on this issue. And yes The Daily Show did too. It's such an easy issue to completely hammer.

9. KO and Rachel Are Not As Effective In Their Editting, Plus What About News?
I agree that KO and Rachel point out that Fox is biased all the time. But, in just five minutes, Stewart manages to absolutely destroy them with the juxtaposition between what Fox does, and what it says.

Plus, KO and Rachel are pundits. Where is the news? How can "news" cover the so-called war between the White House and Fox without actually examining whether Fox is biased? This is my real point. KO and Rachel always take shots at Fox. But, what about Andrea Mitchell, David Gregory, or the news folks on CNN?

How can you cover the news of the WH "war" with Fox without covering whether Fox is biased or not?

10. And, I don't think that their morning program is news
I don't watch Fox, only the clips that Jon Stewart runs and that Gretchen something and her poodles are really a peace of work.

Once, at the gym, when I could not stand Rick Sanchez on CNN, I switched to Fox, figuring - hey it is a news channel and it was 3:00 PM Eastern. This was the last days of the Bush administration and they "reminisced" about how the Clinton staff removed all the W from their keyboards. An assertion that I think was found to be a lie.

Another time, though, they had Senator Schumer and it was informative. Falls into the stopped clock theory, I suppose.
