My Republican voting inactive Marine son in law was impressed with Obama at the AFB..
SIL is by no means a freeper but he almost always votes Republican here in our bright red state, he asked me yesterday if I knew what Obama had done and I said something about honoring the war dead and he said yep..

Then he told me Obama had done something bushie had never done and he even said bushie was not a real veteran.. :wow:

He even remarked how crisp and precise Obama's salute was, as a Marine also I agreed with him.

I know I'm probably perceived by some here as an Obama basher so I just wanted to pass on something positive, my SIL is very proud of being a Marine and for him to speak well of Obama in a military capacity is an accomplishment.

7. Believe me, I've tried talking politics with him..
He and I actually agree on quite a bit. I've known him for about eleven years now and he knew before the Iraq invasion that I was against it and I thought it was going to end up a disaster. Since my prediction was correct he does listen to my opinions more than he used to.

He's just not a particularly political person so talking politics with him is hard at best, I usually end up frustrated and that's not good for our relationship so I don't do it much any more.

2. Sorry, but I can't get over the fact that this man was honoring the dead on the one hand,
While continuing to send the living into the meat grinder. It is time for this hypocrisy, these illegal, immoral wars to stop. Obama needs to put a stop to honoring the war dead by ending these wars now.

9. Thats the nature of any conflict since time began - no peace on earth and goodwill toward men
yet that includes everyone living - I doubt we ever get to a point where we don't require law enforcement or defense or even an armed services because everyone loves one another and would never hurt anyone in anyway.

13. So we should just accept whatever illegal, immoral wars that come our way,
Because that's just the way things are? I don't think so. I don't believe that we can do without a military force, but we can limit our military involvement to those conflicts that are defensive in nature, not these wars for oil and empire.

5. I was impressed as a soldier at 18 meeting Pres LBJ in 1968 and at 19 meeting Pres Nixon in 1969.
I was very impressed with both of them. I didn't have a clue why we were at war, other than the nebulous "to fight the commies," but I was gung ho for my presidents. I got to shake LBJ's hand. Nixon I only got to salute, but he passed by a few feet away.

I wouldn't begin to understand Vietnam or either of those presidents until 1971-1972 and beyond.

Life is a learning curve, and unfortunately, soldiers often are the ones who actually understand the least why we are fighting in a particular place. They know what they're told, and none of them are in the military because they have expertise in understanding American history, politics, and most importantly, constitutional rights.

This president will end up in the dust bin of failed war presidents if he doesn't get us out of Afghanistan. If we are still in Afghanistan in 2012, he won't win a second term.

16. You are welcome.
Although, I have to say, part of me feels like puking every time I see these photos--as much now as they did the first time I saw them.
