5. If he loses the person who replaces him will probably be Senate Minority Leader
because then I think the GOP wins back the senate. I would want somebody not from a red state who has to worry about being re-elected and somebody who then can concentrate on being a strong leader and not backing down so easily or finding "common ground."

10. The Democrats in the Senate get together and elect a leader...
This article from 1988 explains the process.
Washington Talk: The Senate; Choosing a Majority Leader: An Arcane and Curious Process
This it the equivalent of a group of boys dropping their trousers and comparing the size of their prize, and making the person with the biggest stick the winner.

Neither Lieberman nor Bernie Sanders could win, because they are not Democrats. My bet would be Max Baucaus.

11. I am sure they would replace him with someone else from a
heavily republican district.
That is what they always do. ie. Daschle. That way the powers don't have to fight too hard to keep him in line.

Not easy to find someone so wimpy and ineffectual.

16. Is he likely to?
After what I've been reading about Ensign, I'd have thought that Nevada voters would have had enough of Republicans to last them a lifetime; but then I'm very far away.
