But Islamic fundamentalism is typically racialized, particularly in France, and throughout western representations really...in this case, it is the face of North Africans, or Arab-Berbers (Maghrebi).

5. More to appeal to National Front voters

Sarkozy has been really good at stealing votes from Le Pen, the leader of the National Front, a very powerful extreme right wing party.

He always made clear he was in admiration of the US and has advocated for a French equivalent to the Pledge Of Allegiance, as well as a Swearing Of The Oath for all new citizens.

France has an issue with its minorities, it's nothing new. And the problem is getting worse each year.
