Breast cancer---Did you know this?
Edited on Mon Oct-26-09 06:34 PM by WolverineDG
Came across this You Tube video on a local blog (it's a class project for one of the posters) regarding Tamoxitest. It's not long, but it told me something I didn't know, so I thought I'd share it here.

1. That's interesting.
I'm finishing up my 5th yr of tamoxifen next month and will start taking an aromatase inhibitor.

2. I'd never even heard of this test
I had to do a google search before sharing to make sure this was legit. :)

3. My wife quit taking Tamoxifen
....after about a month. Side effects too harsh. She's a six yr survivor, now. Hasn't been to a doc in three yrs. She also refused chemo and radiation after surgery.

4. I've been on Arimidex for 3 years now.
I never knew there was a tamoxitest. This wasn't my option, but I thought I was all caught up on these things.

5. Very important message. K&R
Also, not everyone who has had breast cancer needs to take tamoxifen or any other drug to prevent recurrence. Anyone considering it should know the risks of tamoxifen and weigh them vs. their own likelihood of recurrence, which varies according to the pathology of your cancer.

Example: if your likelihood of recurrence is only 4%, and all taking tamoxifen will do is halve it, is it really worth the risks of tamoxifen to go from a 4% chance of recurrence to a 2% chance?

7. Thanks, I didn't know about that test
I will mention it to my sister's friend with breast cancer. My sister has breast cancer too, but her tumor is not estrogen receptive so hormonal therapy is out.
