Coyote survives 75 mph collision with car - and being trapped between grill and radiator - for 8 hrs

A coyote dubbed 'Tricky' peers out of the gap between a car's radiator and grill after being hit and trapped for eight hours...

...but the miracle animal survived with just a few scrapes.

Meet the world's toughest coyote.

Daniel East and his sister, Tevyn, were driving at night along Interstate 80 near the Nevada-Utah earlier this month, when their car slammed into a coyote that scurried in their path, reported Rex Features.

Believing there was no way the wild animal could survive the 75 mph collision, the pair kept driving for eight more hours to their destination, where they finally inspected the damage to their car.

----

When the coyote started moving, however East realized the animal had survived - and was trapped between the front grill and the radiator of their car.

A local animal control expert was called to the scene and managed to extricate the coyote - which had survived its ordeal with only a few scrapes on its paw.

Coyotes always look like they think you're about to accuse them of stealing something.

6. After a collision like that ...
... how could you NOT stop to inspect your car (not necessarily for a surviving animal, but for damage to your vehicle)?

11. A collision like what?
Coyotes are pretty small critters. I don't know that I'd necessarily stop, either. I'd take a look at the next stop unless I heard something funny.

12. 75 MPH direct impact with a 20 pound animal
(it looks approx 20 pounds) At that velocity it is not something you can disregard for 8 hours, let alone 8 seconds. Try flinging a 20 pound sack of potatoes at your car (if you're strong, at 5 MPH) then multiply that by a factor of 15.

13. Well, in the real world...
:D

I used to live in the back of beyond, Colorado. Over ten years living there, I clipped four deer at freeway speed. None of those was a full head-on impact, all were at night, I didn't stop for any of them, and damage to my vehicle was cosmetic.

Clearly this wasn't a "direct impact," because if it were, the little guy wouldn't be around to tell the tale. :)
