1. I think if you saw one on the right form
Edited on Mon Oct-26-09 03:54 AM by Horse with no Name
The left would split too.

Edited to add:
There are people in this party that I share not one iota of ideology with and there is something very wrong about that. SOMEONE is not getting their needs met.

3. Agree, except..
The ideology has already caused the split. It just has yet to be formalized.

4. People don't have that kind of energy right now.
They're too busy trying to feed their families.

5. "people" won't be forming the party, elites will. "people" need only to follow it.

8. They have no impetus to pay the least attention to us at all.
Is that too negative? :)

23. I can't tell if you're laughing at me or not but if you are, it's all good.
lol

Maybe I was just too involved in our own family drama around unemployment and money these last two years. I've learned how to turn any bean into a main course -- in fact tonight I served up merh's red beans and rice recipe with decent results. Being this broke is hard work, for sure.

:)

24. No I'm not laughing at you

It's just that your saying "feed their families" reminded me of Bush's "food on our families" remark. I needed a chuckle but it was definitely at Bush's expense, not yours.

6. Don't think so. The GOP works in some locales. That won't change.
The GOP can be one thing on a state level and something else on a national level. In many areas, the GOP will easily win seats in congress or state races.

The GOP has a social wing and an economic wing. The social wing is made up of racists and bigots. The economic wing is made up of selfish assholes. They will vote together for the GOP nominee in general elections, because they'd rather see a GOP rep than a Democratic rep.

Neither party is splitting any time soon. If anything, the GOP will gain strength in the elections next year.

9. I think something like the Republic Party will continue . . .
At least for a few more election cycles. They won't have resolved the war between the crazy people and the otherwise-sane right-of-center people (and so will lose more elections), but eventually the crazy faction will shrink to the size of a black hole and disappear from this universe, and the right-of-center survivors will begin to assert themselves again.

Those trogs and cranks not transubstantiated to another reality will hang around like angry ghosts, but will have no significant political impact outside of tinfoil hat organizations supported by aging wingnut billionaires. Every time some sweet young thing fleeces one of these drooling titans, another rightwing loony bin will shut down.

17. I presume you're referring to the New york race...

Of course I'd prefer the Democrat to win, but on the other hand I rather like that this is becoming a wedge for the GOP. If the conservative hoffman guy wins, it might cause a huge split in the GOP...which would be a good thing, IMHO.

If we spend 2 or more years with 9%+ unemployment than there will be a third party.
