For those of us who have health savings accounts if we are successful in preventing health costs and invest the account wisely could be in a good position to continue with private high deductible insurance. With the sliding cost of part B someone working in their 60's, 70's and 80's could certainly pay less with the high deductible coverage.

1. Really? Have you checked the cost of arterial stents, heart bypasses, chemothereapy?
I doubt that you could afford to cover them unless you're really, really wealthy. And any one of those things can strike you quite unexpectedly.

3. With a HSA that has grown over the years and the HD insurance plan that typically has a
$5 to 4K annual out of pocket cost, you don't have to be wealthy at all to cover those things.

4. Ok here is a free clue for you
as to costs. When my dad broke his hip, it RAN close to 200,000 USD. No he did not have insurance... nor is he a citizen... and that was WITHOUT complications. You have no fucking clue about the cost... trust me. Oh and we do know you HATE the guv'ment...

6. I do not hate the government at all.
I mentioned having both insurance and a HSA with contributions and investment gains over time.

8. and you pay into medicare
mandates are good for LOWERING all costs. By the way, at the current inflation rate, by the time you reach 65, assuming you are fifty... that same procedure with same scneario will be close to half a million

10. I'm not fifty. I pay into many things that I don't directly use, that's part of responsibility.

12. Right now if you do not enroll your insurance plan has it's benefits reduced by
80%. That's what I mean by giving a private option. Removing the disincentive.

13. SHH don;t tell anyone but we are moving towards single payer
so sooner or later the private insurance will go away... good thing. Can't wait.

However, my mother priced a private insurance plan and she's 62...it was 12,000 a year for catostrophic coverage.
