I was watching a history channel special on Zeus last night
Edited on Sat Oct-24-09 05:06 PM by AllentownJake
They are doing a mythology series last night and I think I like Zeus better than the Old Testament God of the Bible. He just seemed like a nicer God. Sure he had his faults and temper tantrums but he seemed to have a lot less of a blood lust than the Old Testament God.

4. No he did flood the place once
He got mad people were engaging in cannibalism (the entire his dad trying to eat him thing, even though he ate his first wife) and wiped out all of humanity but two people in a flood.

18. So what? We're "Saved" , so we're all headed to a better place, aren't we?
What's a planet or even two compared to heaven?

3. Tell that to Prometheus.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prometheus

"In Greek mythology, Prometheus (Ancient Greek: Προμηθεύς, "forethought")<1> is a Titan, the son of Iapetus and Themis, and brother to Atlas, Epimetheus and Menoetius. He was a champion of human-kind known for his wily intelligence, who stole fire from Zeus and gave it to mortals.<2> Zeus then punished him for his crime by having him bound to a rock while a great eagle ate his liver every day only to have it grow back to be eaten again the next day. His myth has been treated by a number of ancient sources, in which Prometheus is credited with – or blamed for – playing a pivotal role in the early history of humankind."

5. Yeah but he took it out on Prometheus
He didn't take it out on humanity. He liked the ladies down here.

13. He took it out on humanity before Prometheus stole the fire, sort of the like the corporate media
took it out on the American People before the Internet was open to them.

The corporate media with their one way top down information flow wouldn't hesitate to screw the men along with the ladies, but they didn't do it out of love. The corporate media's propaganda screwing may not have been as a graceful swan but they could and do come in different forms; morning shows, prime time news, late night news, late night comedy, standard programming, talk radio, newspapers, magazines, books but they never really respected us and millions have lost their lives over the years as a result.

The same with Zeus prior to humanity; getting fire, they were freezing and dying in the cold and dark, that's why Prometheus had pity on them and stole fire in the first place, and his reward was to have his liver eaten for all eternity.

10. Christian God tops Zeus in the cruelty department.
The flood alone puts Christian God over the top. How many kittens did C.G. drown? How many human babies? Just picture all of those dead kittens and babies floating on the water all over the world.

33. That was the Jewish God and we know what He's like.
Edited on Sat Oct-24-09 10:27 PM by aquart
Which is why we developed Jewish Humor. The Christian God NEVER does anything bad. He privatized evil and gave Satan the contract. Which would only have been bad if it was done without competitive bidding.

I don't understand why THAT would be on The History Channel.

15. I grew up on the History Channel
Watched it every day with my dad as a teenager. TLC used to be an awesome channel as well.

Reality TV is killing the original. I mean Pawn Stars, while entertaining, doesn't belong on the History Channel.

24, but I remember when I could turn on THC, and every single program in an evening looked fascinating. Now, "History" means "non-fiction," and even that stretches often.

He always helps out, and never requires anything in return. He is for truth and justice, and... ah, the American way. He would not wipe out human kind or any other kind.

22. The new testament is a complete rip-off of Egytptian, Greek, Persian, Roman mythology.
The "miracles" surrounding the story of Jesus are all ripped off from mythologies that predate Jesus by some 2000+ years.

34. I agree. I would also like to see Egyptian...Isis and Bast.
However, they definately should have done one on Athena (check out my user name) as the current capital of Greece is her namesake and she was one of the most powerful gods, with the exception of Zeus and in some myths, she is even his better.
