I don't. And some of these folks that I know not only favor gay marriage, but voted for Bush or McCain, or both.

Time is on our side. Father Time is a wonderful thing.

3. Same here
I've lost touch with some of them over the years, but I think that a lot of my old high school friends who were deep into the evangelical movement back in the day have mellowed a bit. One of them even lists her politics on facebook as "moderate". That may not be how I would define them, I don't know, but she was one of those "proud conservative" types, so if she's not willing to even say "conservative" anymore, then she's definitely moving in our direction.

12. Ditto
I know younger folks who are still leery of gay people, and who make homophobic-leaning jokes, but they take a live-and-let-live approach to equal marriage. I've only seen resistance to it among those who have been subjected to religious brainwashing.

Of course, I don't live out in the country any more, and haven't since about 2004. Attitudes among even non-religious rural folks might be different.

6. yes I do.
I have family who are homophobic, against gay marriage and people who are gay adopting children.

I don't think I can ever change their mindset but I try. They know how I feel.

9. Yes.
The adolescent children of adults against gay marriage tend also to be against gay marriage.

In my experience as a middle school teacher.

19. No, but everyone here knows who she is.
I know some religous conservatives personally, both under and over 30, who are against gay marriage.

Above 60, I've heard one person say it and I told him he is stupid and needs to move into the 21st Century.

When I have done canvassing for equality issues, the most aggressively opposed people were always in their early 20's.

Don't really personally know many bigots as I tend to exclude people like that from my social circle, so the set may be self-limiting.

21. Time IS on our side. The difference between the youngest generations and the
oldest is marked. I give a lot of credit to television and shows like Will and Grace, which didn't exist when I was growing up.

22. Under 30 here - the only ones I know opposed to gay marriage are very religious
And of the very religious people I know, less than half are opposed to gay marriage. Of ALL the people I know, I'd say easily less than 10 percent are against gay marriage.

Gay marriage will be nationwide federal law, at the very latest, thirty years from now. You can take that to the bank.
