Anyone else wonder about that? Maybe they could even be lucky enough to kill themselves some Japanese students. There is no penalty for such things you know..

5. I remember when that happened
True, nothing remotely equivalent to this has happened in Barack Obama's WH.

7. The USN has always taken families, community leaders and biz folks on sub rides. Nothing new.

8. But is it common practice to let them have the controls and sink stuff?

11. Yes, stupid. Thank you.
The skipper was hot dogging and the trawler was completely silent.

It's unfortunate as the skipper was known for being really good to his sailors.

14. Not so much. There is a BIG difference between taking civilians out in a sub
and letting a civilian crony have control and end up sinking a Japanese fishing boat, as happened in the bush/cheney years.

It is incredibly stupid not to note the difference, don't you think?

17. No, civilians did not have control. The crew was hot-dogging and the passive sonar
did not "hear" the trawler that had its engines off.

This is NOT something you can paste the Bush Admin with.

13. It's another "Obama is amazing" because he's not Bush thread.
By that criteria I figure we're all pretty amazing.

15. well not all of us. But what's really amazing?
is that a country that could elect a worthless pos like Bush, also elected a reasonable human being like Obama.

Of course neither "election" of Bush was exactly on the up-and-up so maybe it's not so amazing, just lucky that Obama was able to beat the fraud.
