A moment of symbolism and solidarity.
Nationals show support by sporting Virginia Tech caps

WASHINGTON -- The Washington Nationals wore Virginia Tech baseball caps during Tuesday night's game against the Atlanta Braves as a tribute to the victims of the shooting rampage at the school.

Nationals players wore the burgundy hats with "VT" in orange when they took the field for the top of the second inning, and the team said they'd keep them on for the rest of the game.

Manager Manny Acta, pitching coach Randy St. Claire and other coaches wore white "VT" caps with burgundy stitching.

The Nationals said the idea of wearing the Virginia Tech caps came from a fan from Calvert County, Md., who e-mailed team president Stan Kasten.

A small thing, sure...but I'd bet my shoes any and all VT people out there were touched by the gesture.

Nice move, Nats. My favorite part about this article is the fact that it doesn't mention who won the game, because it doesn't matter.

7. It was "Jack" driving around in a Dodge Viper commercial...
tell us how good we should all feel to be Americans, and how it's OK to mourn the loss of 9-11 by buy a big juicy hamburger.

I'm paraphrasing, but...

5. Well, the poor Nats, being new, are the worst team in baseball. But their fans are from VA
DC and, to a lesser extent because of the Orioles, from MD. When the story went out on the wire, there likely WAS no score at all, as the game is being played tonight.

Last score I saw was top of the eighth, Braves leading by one 5-4.

9. I want to say how impressed I have been by all the young Virginia Tech students
I have seen interviewed on TV. They have been, without exception, thoughtful, caring people. Their parents must be very proud of them. I just pray they will be able to resume a normal life without too much pain after this terrible trauma.
Our networks carried the memorial service today and I extend to you my deepest sympathy for the terrible, senseless act of lunacy at Virginia Tech.
