This is why Americans need to stop damning intellectual elites for being "elites."
Because sometimes many in the general public don't know which end is up. And NO it's not just stupid fundamentalists. It's a problem across the board.

http://www.boston.com/news/science/articles/2009/10/23/skepticism_over_global_warming_on_rise_poll_suggests/

WASHINGTON - The number of Americans who believe there is solid evidence that the earth is warming is at its lowest point in three years, and the number who see the situation as a serious problem has also declined, according to a survey released yesterday.

And the share of people who believe pollution caused by humans is causing temperatures to rise has also taken a dip, even as the United States and world forums gear up for possible action against climate change.

1. There is something hinckey about that poll
It's made the headlines all over the inner-tubes today, but it's a huge difference from numerous polls conducted only 6 months ago. I can't imagine such a large opinion swing in 6 months after three years of 70 percent plus belief in global climate change science.

3. I guess you have to be "elite"
in order to ignore that big nuclear fireball in the sky.

By the way, the planet has cooled over the past 10 years.

I know I shouldn't be arguing with you religious fanatics, but the arrogance is over the top, and I'm sick of paying for your wrongheaded elitism.

4. We are at a point in human history
Where if the scientist are right, we are fucked anyway. No climate change legislation will be enacted by this administration, there isn't the support in congress for it in 2010.

No one wants to go home to their constituents and give them a GOP talking point.

5. What would help, and probably put this issue to bed for good...
is if "elites" stopped thinking that their opinion was untouchable simply because they've spent more years in school.

Yeah, I know that "years in school" is equal to "smarts" in the minds of those who've spent more "years in school", but hey... go to YOUTUBE and see what the people who are spending more "years in school" are actually doing. Where did the phrase "binge drinking" come from?

I don't put much stock in "years in school" these days: "Intellectual Elite" means you've spent more years drinking and partying rather than working in the real world. "Intellectual Elites" will never invent a new and better manufacturing method today, because none of them have been, nor would they lower themselves to be, involved in the manufacturing process.

Fuck you and your college degrees. Step up to the plate and actually MAKE something.

8. If I'm not mistaken, the folks that design and improve Intel's manufacturing methods
are folks with at least some "years in school"

Most of the manufacturing that doesn't require some deep education in its design has been shipped offshore.

I also think that the binge drinkers you're seeing on YouTube are more likely to be Republican Presidential nominees or "marketers" than engineers, physicians, teachers or scientists. YouTube videos of lab tech work, research and writing papers are just so boring you know.

So, I guess, Fuck You and your Working Class Hero Bullshit......

Now, can we just get along?

6. The intellectual elites have left the poor and working poor
behind and continuously struggling to survive as a result of government policy decisions for the last 40 years. If there is mistrust they have both created it and earned it.

9. Umm, many of the intellectual elites are not that well off themselves
I think that your rage is better directed at those who wield power, which is not the same thing as those who are smart and well educated.

11. rage?
The professional educated classes have completely abandoned the lower classes particularly in education and government.

Rage doesn't interest me, truth does.

10. This isn't about elites.
This is political theater, where people pose and posture about issues like people cheering in the stands for their favorite team. Just as with the birther bullshit, these people know AGW is real, but they believe there is a political victory to be had in the short term by opposing the sort of reforms needed to stave off the effects of warming.
