If you know someone with no healthcare but military service
You should know about the VA's Enrollment Priority Group 5 and Priority Group 8

For Priority Group 5:
--Nonservice-connected veterans and noncompensable service-connected veterans rated 0% disabled whose annual income and net worth are below the established VA Means Test thresholds
--Veterans receiving VA pension benefits
--Veterans eligible for Medicaid benefits

Changes to means testing have expanded availability for some vets who were turned down before. The newer guidelines concern Priority Group 8

1. It was George W. Bush and his lapdog GOP Congress who started turning vets away.
New Enrollment Priority 8 veteran applicants have been rejected if they applied on or after January 17, 2003. This means testing was a new policy. Now with a Democratic President and a Democratic Congress the rules are at least being relaxed for now. I'm hoping the pre-2003 rules will be eventually restored.

Support the troops. Yeah, right.

2. The important thing is that vets with no means to secure health
care can still be assigned to categories that provide benefits (including primary care) to vets who had no service related disability.

For those needing health-care that's what is important.

3. Everything is important.
It's important to remember Junior imposed strict means testing, denying this health care benefit that was promised to vets, except for those in extreme poverty. It's important to note that Democrats are now doing what they can to relax those restrictions.
