Heads up troops: Abstinence-only education "tucked in with the health care reform legislation"
Abstinence-Only Education Shouldn't Make the Cut

Abstinence-only education is dangerous and ineffective, and has no place in our health care reform legislation. But Senator Orrin Hatch's (R-Utah) abstinence-only-until-marriage amendment has been tucked in with the health care reform legislation -- and we need your help to strike it when it reaches Senate floor. Women everywhere need the Senate to support comprehensive sex education programs, not ideological crusades.

Take action NOW!

3. From what I have read there is very little difference in its effect.
Abstinence education is just a waste of money. It does little to reduce sexually transmitted diseases. Personally I think more money should be spent on developing new drugs to prevent the spread of the STDs. On the other hand, why should a drug company find a cure for STDs when they are making so much money.

5. The Senate bill, filed today, says abstinence but not "abstinence-only"
See Section 1804

6. Why should the feds pay for abstinence education at all? All it is
is telling kids that is they don't have sex, they won't get pregnant or an STd. What is to educate? They don't even need a lesson plan!
