1. If it's open to everyone and it starts when the bill is signed
Edited on Sun Oct-18-09 06:33 PM by autorank
If it's the current proposal, for the uninsured only and three/four years out when the insurance exchange starts up, I say it's a fraud upon the citizens of this great country. k*r

2. I agree with Autorank! and it would depend on what is in the public option
if it is robust..but what does even that mean??..it needs to be defined for me to agree with it, and then it depends on the definition!

I would need to know what mandates would be put into effect and what the penalities would be.

As far as my opinion goes, nothing seems defined enough to agree or disagree.

just my 2 cents..

5. I think you should recommend the House Liberals post
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x6806509

and then tell me how you feel about people opposing a public option if it doesn't meet every single item in their definition of a public option. Or the people who won't support any of it because it isn't single payer.

And then come again and tell me this is all Obama's fault?

8. seems to me ..idiot bush lead enough to get votes from dems for an illegal war of lies voted on
why can Obama not lead enough to get enough votes to get health care reform..not insurance welfare for the insurance companies and big Pharma..and why do we Americans not command enough respect to know what he negotiated with Big Pharma and the insurance corps and the hospital conglomerates? We damn well should have the right to know what went on in those secret meetings! After all this is supposed to be a democracy..and it is our healthcare we are talking about here..not state secrets!

12. You want him to lie and terrorize the country?
Is that it? You want him to ignore opposing views, ram legislation through, have people crying on the House floor from threats by Pelosi? Is that what you want?

19. If 70% of the country were making noise
we wouldn't be having this discussion. That's all I'm saying. The man has been asking people to join in the fight since June. Did you? Everyone I know in the real world is still protesting for single payer.

6. I want universal affordable care. If that means "public option"...
so be it.

If not, I still want universal affordable care whatever it's called.

(and NO undefined slogans, please-- they don't cure a thing)

13. I'm in favor of public health care, insurance has nothing to do with.
I don't want "health insurance", "insurance" implies that you might not be covered, that you have to buy it, that it's an optional product, I want a health care program that serves everyone, that is a public service, like roads or the military. I don't see why making everybody buy insurance is good, but making everybody pay taxes, less taxes, for the same thing, is bad.

15. The public option or a non-profit option are the only way
Either a public option or a non-profit option (with capped salaries and/or bonus. . .so it doesn't go crazy) are the only way to provide REAL competition for the big business insurances. And it wouldn't "kill" the private insurances. . .unless they refuse to lower their prices.

Belgium has one of the best health care in Europe (obviously, much better than the U.S.) because everyone is covered, but also everyone has the choice between the state insurance (to which they have to contribute) or a private insurance (to which they have to pay also). . .and the cost of private vs state insurance is now pretty much in line in terms of prices and quality. . .so it is a REAL option!
Both State and Private options also focus on a lot of prevention and offer such "fringe benefits" as very low cost Summer camp for children, etc. . .

And, yes, I know this is USA, and not another country! But this is an area where it would benefit all of us to actually take a look at what has worked and what has not worked abroad! Time to put aside (at least for a little while) our "Pride as a nation" and realize that, in some areas at least, we can learn from others!
