“Silent Filibusters” and Anonymous Assholes Who Can’t CountBy: Jane Hamsher

The ability to count past 10 without taking off your shoes should be in the skill set of a member of Congress. But apparently not:
“If there really is such a groundswell of support for the public option, perhaps senator Schumer would like to show the caucus, especially the centrist Democrats, how he can come up with the 60 votes necessary to overcome the republic filibuster that he damn well knows is coming,” said a senior Democrat.
There are 40 Republicans in the Senate. It takes 41 to filibuster. As Markos noted, there is no “Republican” filibuster possible.
Those “centrists” who need “explaining to” are the ones who are threatening in smoke filled rooms to join in a — wait for it — bipartisan filibuster of their own caucus. The anonymous Senior Democratic smartass just doesn’t think you and your 77% of the country who want a public option deserve to know who they’re talking about.
I have no idea why Politico is letting people throw these kinds of jabs behind the cloak of anonymity, because there’s no good reason for it.
Update — Kagro:
If one Republican vote for the Baucus health insurance “reform” bill makes it bipartisan, how many Democratic “no” votes on cloture does it take to make a filibuster of the public option bipartisan?
Almost 45,000 people have demanded Harry Reid put an end to these “silent filibusters.” Sign the petition.<snip>
