3. I would hope that Reid has the influence to bind all of the Dems
to vote for cloture, then cut them loose for the final vote. Maybe we would need her for the cloture vote. That is still not the same as voting for the bill. She would still be able to cover her ass.

Even if no bill emerged from Finance, we could have proceeded with the Senate HELP bill and the House bills.

What this does mean is that a new "conventional wisdom" will form: we can finally have a "bipartisan" bill, but only if it includes an individual mandate but no public option.

Watch Democrats stampede to embrace that alternative as "the only way to realistically get health-care reform." And the screwing of the average American goes up and up...
