Republicans Will Win The 2010 Midterm Elections....
Say republicans.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/11/us/politics/11cong.html?_r=1&hp

"WASHINGTON — Some House Republicans are boasting about their chances of regaining control of the House in 2010 and relegating Democrats led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi to minority status for the second half of President Obama’s term.

“I have no doubt that we will,” said Representative Tom Price, the Georgia Republican who leads the conservative Republican Study Committee. “The American people want checks and balances, and the way to do that is to put Republicans back in charge.”"

Presumably the republican propoganda dissemination process will be something like: NYT -> teevee media reporting it as just plain true -> DUers commenting on it, saying Obama is a failure.

And all because republicans say so.

2. The Midterms will hinge
on unemployment at the time and seniors perception of health care reform.

25. All on jobs. I don't see any scenario though where repukes take
back either house. They potentially could make gains in both, but not enough. If the job numbers turn around by summer of '10, forget it, Dems expand control.

26. They won't take back either house
but any gains made will be the result of unemployment and seniors perception about healthcare.

All they ever handed out was blank checks -- to Bush, Cheney, and Halliburton.

6. "And if I wish hard enough, I'll get a pony."
Sure, the American people want checks and balances. Balance is why they tossed Republics out of office in 2006 and 2008.

And while the Republics may gain a few seats next year, they're just as likely to lose a few as well -- especially if Dems show enough backbone and moxie to get major provisions of Obama's agenda passed.

Sure the Republics' base is all charged up, but it's also shrinking, and -- especially if they continue to have really bad months like the one past where their venal, doctrinaire partisanship reaches such heights of shrillness that glass begins to shatter all over the country -- they could easily be swamped again.

7. Someone please bookmark this for Mr. Price
File it under "Whistling past the graveyard," and be sure to send it to him on November 3, 2010. I have some suggestions for parts of his anatomy into which he can shove it on that day. Oh, and keep a few pieces left over for our friends at the Washington Post who print this kind of nonsense without the least bit of skepticism.

But I have no doubt they will make gains. It won't be 1994 though.

If the economy is better, the democrats will keep control, but I bet their majority will drop. It usually does in the midterms.

17. The Republican Robot Elders...
Edited on Sat Oct-10-09 06:42 PM by Xipe Totec
Bender: The fact is, humans are completely harmless.

Blue Elder: We're well aware of that.

Bender: You are?

Blue Elder: Of course. But they're useful to us as a scapegoat to distract the public from their real problem.

Green Elder: Like our crippling lug nut shortage.

Orange Elder: And a corrupt government of incompetent Robot Elders.

Yellow Elder: Duh, that's for sure.

Blue Elder: Quiet, Jimmy.

Fry: Stop! One more step and I'll breathe fire on you!

Leela: He'll do it! He's crazy.

Orange Elder: Can humans really do that, or did we just made that up?

Blue Elder: I think it was from that movie.

Green Elder: Was that the original or the remake?

Blue Elder: I'm not sure... Hey, they're getting away!

19. November 2002, the Republicans (and the media) were reading the last rites on the Democrats ...
and again in 2004 ...

Karl Rove was declaring in 2006 that the Repugniconvicts would be gaining ground significantly in November 2006 ...

and that was all with the media against the dems, no matter what the deluded conservatives try to deceive you with ...

so, with that kind of history, I hesitate in diagnosing the fatality of the current sniffles the Repugniconvicts are experiencing ...

Dr. "Liberal Media" will be doing whatever it takes, using heroic measures, to bring the Repugnicons back to full health.

30. That's what it boils down to
Will Democrats and Independents that turned out for Obama make the same trip to the polls in a mid-term election? I think worst case they'll pick up a few seats due to low turn out but it won't change things very much.

33. The aroma of Chimp still pervades the air
Having Republicans back in charge will be remembered for its many disasters for several years and the current face of their party is becoming more extreme by the day. It's true that the pendulum eventually swings back over time. But its going to take a special climate for the majority of Americans to turn over the control of government back to their party in the near term. I don't see it happening absent a major series of meltdowns.
