Think about it.

US soccer team is playing the Brazilian team. When Brazil scores, they cheer. When America scores they boo.

6. I actually encountered anti-abortion protesters protesting the olympics
They were protesting two things:

1. (and this is ridiculous) female athletes are allegedly deliberately getting pregnant and then having an abortion because pregnancy related hormones improve athletic performance.
2. Condoms were being provided at the athletes village.

We had some people here in 2004 and 2008 rooting against American athletes. I was rather embarrassed by it.

I think you should root for your own country in the Olympics, while still respecting the achievements of athletes from other countries.
