OK help me out here. I checked snopes & couldnt find anything, but
I don't believe there's any truth to this crap!

I got this email today and want to refute it with proof!

Subject: Christmas

This is a message from the mayor in Lubbock, Windy Sitton. She attended all the White House Christmas parties during both Bush years. This is not a "scare tatic from unknowns on the internet. Pretty much says it all.

Thought you might be interested in this information from the White House. This isn't a rumor; this is a fact.

We have a friend at church who is a very talented artist. For several years she, among many others, has painted ornaments to be hung on the various White House Christmas trees. The WH sends out an invitation to send an ornament and informs the artists of the theme for the year.

She got her letter from the WH recently. It said that they would not be called Christmas trees this year. They will be called Holiday trees. And, to please not send any ornaments painted with a religious theme.

She was very upset at this development and sent back a reply telling them that she painted the ornaments for Christmas trees and would not be sending any for display that left Christ out of Christmas.

Just thought you should know what the new residents in the WH plan for the future of America. If you missed his statement that "we do not consider ourselves a Christian Nation" this should confirm that he plans to take us away from our religious foundation as quickly as possible.

4. I do think this is a continuation of a similar story they did about
the Clinton WH. I can't just tell this nutball she's WRONG becaue she won't believe me! She really is a nice person...other than being a very RW Pub. Almost everything political she sends me can be debunked on snopes and I always reply to all with the truth, but this time I can't find anything!

9. By no means tell her she's wrong
But do tell her that when she goes to the White House for the annual Christmas party, she should be sure to mention her concerns to the host and hostess. Oh, and if she's not going to the White House Christmas party, ask her what in hell difference it makes to her?

11. Wrong. You tell HER to provide proof that it's true.
Edited on Fri Oct-09-09 09:20 PM by scarletwoman
If she can't provide actual names and actual documentation -- like a copy of the alleged letter from the White House -- then all you have to do is tell her that this story is bullshit.

It's not up to YOU to debunk it, it's up to HER to PROVE it's true.

23. Good find but that truthorfiction site sure has a slant
I mean all the anti-Obama letters that they call TRUTH!
They don't comment on what it is in the letter, just that yes this is a mail from who e-mail says it is and then show that mail about how rotten Obama was. I wasn't sure why that was important to 'prove'

I went to Snopes to see if that had become usual practice but they didn't have all those letters there. I noticed the two sites rated some rumors differently too...like a story some lady reported about what an Obama campaign worker did.

Not saying they are all crap, they aren't...but all those letters bothered me.

10. The wingers mistake 'taking us away from our religious foundation'
with anyone else just not letting them shove their 'beliefs' down everyone else's throats.

The Pilgrims were, I believe, on the losing end of a nasty religious civil war in the Old Country. They lost the ability to continue to shove their radical beliefs on others. The Puritans were not real nice human beings, and one may well question their 'Christianity', based on some of their actions.

Wingers are still fighting for the right to force their interpretation on others. And they like to pretend it is they who are being persecuted when the rest of us draw a line and hold it.

This crap with editing the bible AGAIN, to purge it from any residual liberal values left (after the many translations and edits in its history) pretty much shows they are more about propaganda and control than any real religious/spiritual traditions.

In short, they holler 'holy holy holy gospel', but most of the radical fundies do not walk the walk.

Henceforth, with Republicans only, I will call Christmas just "the holiday." With everyone else I'll call it Christmas.

14. "The Government Of The United States Is In No Way Founded On The Christian Religion"
George frikkin' Washington said that. So don't tell me about this country's "religious foundations." This country doesn't HAVE a religious foundation other than the freedom to practice WHICHEVER DAMN RELIGION YOU WANT TO without some right-wing zealot shoving another one down your throat.

If you have right-wing friends who like to yammer about the "war on Christmas," just turn the tables on them. They pretty much all spend way too much time in the majority and absolutely hate it when you force them to see something from somebody else's perspective. In their eyes, who could possibly object to being told "Merry Christmas" in December in this country? It's so innocuous, right? Here's what you do. You FORCE them to become a minority by painting this picture for them. Tell them that from now on, every time you see them during the month of December, you're going to tell them to have a Happy Ramadan. And not only that, you're going to instruct every clerk in every store they frequent to greet them with a "Happy Ramadan." Then actually follow through with it. You'll see them change their tunes pretty quick. They won't like being told "Happy Ramadan" one little bit, and will IMPLORE you to say "Happy Holidays" from then on. And now THEY know what it feels like to be a minority.
