Oh, for crying out loud, already.
This furor over the Nobel Peace Prize is insane, folks. Obama is a perfectly reasonable and even predictable choice. The Peace Prize is based in idealism, optimism and hope.

Really. Don't take my word for it; read the article that the chair of the prize committee wrote years ago:

http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/peace/articles/sejersted/index.html

Congratulations, President Obama. Congratulations to us all. And let's hope for the future in just the way that that Peace Prize is supposed to encourage us to do.

3. Also, Obama has no control over winning the award
He's being attacked for something he has no control over.

7. According to an asshole on Faux...
Obama DELIBERATELY put off making the recommendation to increase troops in Afghanistan until AFTER the Nobel Prize vote, in the hope that he could win.

4. I was surprised.
Pleasantly surprised.
And I think he does deserve the Peace Prize for shifting our diplomatic stance about 180 degrees.

Go Obama! Make it so, #1!

5. Good job!
I agree the reaction to this Good News, this honor, has been outrageous.

I cannot imagine this happening anywhere else in the world.

I'm personally ashamed of the behavior of the haters out there today.

Congratulations President Obama!

12. Posted the same link with highlights in
my OP this morning, followed by another DUer who started another thread using the same link. It seems for some reason it's not about what Nobel wanted - that the committee is following - but what they think the criterion are and that's all there is to it.

13. Yes; Congrats, Honor, and Commendations -
This is something to be proud of and inspired by. Our President is a rare and truly historic individual in so many ways.

I understand if people are surprised and/or disagree with the Nobel committee's decision, but I think some of the outrage has been unreasonable.

Maybe this award was partly meant as a figurative "shot in the arm" or "bright spot," etc., and those kinds of encouragements are sorely few and far-between these days. We've had plenty of disappointments and failures for a long time. We can have our disagreements with our President, but still celebrate the optimism of this moment.
