State Dept. on Nobel: 'Better to be thrown accolades than shoes'
:D
WASHINGTON (CNN) – "Certainly from our standpoint, this gives us a sense of momentum — when the United States has accolades tossed its way, rather than shoes."

That's the take of Hillary Clinton's State Department on President Obama being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, according to her spokesman, Assistant Secretary PJ Crowley.

Crowley was referring to the incident last December when an Iraqi journalist threw his shoes at President George W. Bush during his final visit to Iraq of his presidency.
...

Crowley's comments suggested a recognition by the Obama administration that the Nobel Prize was as much an indictment of the Bush administration as it was an effort to praise President Obama's outreach to improve the US image around the world.

4. Dumb, Dumb comment from a public official at State
Did an assistant secretary of state just make light of an assault on the President of the United States? Why do I think neither Hillary Clinton nor Barack Obama would have approved such a statement?

5. I don't think the point was an "assault"
I think the point was that if you are liked/respected in the world that things like the shoe incident are much less likely to happen!

7. So Kennedy and/or Reagan were shot because they were disrespected?
Of course you're right, that's the implication here, but that implication is logically fallacious. With that logic, one could argue that the death threats against Obama are motivated by the fact that he is somehow unpopular.

Regardless, I think the assistant Secretary of State inadvertently gave some red meat to the conservatives.

18. I don't disagree
But there is a level of decorum to expect from the Department of State no less. This was a very undiplomatic thing to say. Aside from the magnitude of the attack, how was the shoe throwing in Iraq any different from the grenade throwing in Georgia? I expect a retraction from the DoS pretty soon on this statement.

19. I'd hope there would be no retraction
It would show the righties that the President and the Department of State can play hardball too, and a hell of a lot better than they ever could.

17. Love it!
The entire human race recognizes that Bush was a bloodthirsty clown right out of a Stephen King novel, and that Obama is the thoughtful adult that America & the world needs right now,
