'Horrorcore' singer suspected in Virginia killings
Source: CNN

Richard Samuel McCroskey III -- a 20-year-old rapper in the underground genre of "Horrorcore" who sang of chopping people into pieces -- has been arrested in connection with the slayings. The crime scene was so horrifying police would not even describe it, saying only that the victims died of blunt force trauma.

The victims were Mark Niederbrock, 50, the beloved pastor at Walker's Presbyterian Church; his 16-year-old daughter, Emma Niederbrock; Melanie Wells, Emma's 18-year-old friend from West Virginia; and Niederbrock's estranged wife, Debra Kelley, 53, a professor at Longwood University.

McCroskey has been charged only in the killing of Mark Niederbrock. Police and the prosecutor's office did not return repeated phone calls from CNN. But in late September, authorities said more charges are pending.

3. Isn't it comforting that instead, he really IS a sociopath?
There's a genre of music I don't think I'll ever grok. Or ever want to, for that matter.

5. According to The Wikipedia
Horrorcore is hip hop music focused on the horror of Satanism, cannibalism, suicide, murder and rape.

What’s not to like?

15. Kool Keith's "Dr Dooom" was decent horrorcore
so that's to like, for one. Not as good as "Sex Style," though, which was porno-core through and through.

7. Wait til NAAHA (National Axe and Hatchet Association) catches wind of this.
They will cut them a new one. Axes and hatchets don't kill people. People kill people!

4. So this freak posts some twisted lyrics on You-Tube
and now he's a "rapper in the underground genre of 'Horrorcore'". I guess psychobilly and horrorpunk fans better brace themselves for the coming crusade against that thar Devil music.
As if the Xians needed something else to be outraged about.
And, no, not all Christians, but I predict there will be a sizable number of those who see devils and angels behind every bush that will become unhinged over this. And of course it'll be Obama's fault because he posed for pictures with those Goth girls from Spain.
You betcha!

9. But, the thing is, horrorcore actually is 'that thar Devil music.'
The sentiments glorified in horrorcore are every bit as warped as the twisted religious sentiments of Christian fundamentalism. If Christians can be motivated by their delusions to murder in the name of God or Jesus, surely it's possible that an unstable person could commit murder when goaded by a subculture glorifying such violence? Isn't it possible that Richard McCroskey (the alleged murderer) did kill because of his religious views, his Satanism?

"You're not the first, just to let you know. I've killed many people and I kill them real slow. It's the best feeling, watching their last breath. Stabbing and stabbing till there's nothing left." Lyrics from McCroskey's song 'My Dark Side.'

Religious motivation to violence and people who act on such motivation are not confined to Christians. In this instance, it was a fairly liberal Presbyterian minister and three other people who were killed. The minister actually took his daughter and her friend to a horrorcore concert in Michigan shortly before the murders - the concert at which the girls met McCroskey who was planning on visiting one of the girls in Virginia.

13. Yes, I thought that was interesting that a preacher's daughter was into this music scene.
It does make the whole story more twisted. I have a feeling that teenagers from secular homes, or at least, less-religious, are far less likely to be interested in "satanic" noise pollution like "horrorcore".

6. We have seriously lost our way as a society
Defense attorney Cary Bowen told CNN, "I don't want to say he's in shock. That's a medical term, but it's a big experience for him. ... I'm not sure he gets the severity of everything right now."

Big experience??????!!!!!!!

WTF???

I sure hope he's okay.
