Poll: Presidential races tighten on both sides
http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/04/16/poll.2008/

snip
---------------------

Giuliani's lead over McCain slips to 6 points if Gingrich or Thompson enters race
Gingrich would take 8-10 percent of ballots; Thompson would snare 11-12 percent
Clinton's lead over Obama slips to 8 points; she still has edge with black voters
Generational divide may be emerging in Democratic race, CNN analyst says

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. John McCain has slashed Rudy Giuliani's double-digit lead by 10 points, but the GOP picture gets muddier if former Sen. Fred Thompson or former House Speaker Newt Gingrich enters the race, according to a CNN poll gauging the popularity of 2008 presidential hopefuls.

Giuliani, the former New York mayor, had a healthy 16-point lead over the Arizona senator last month, but that has dwindled to six points -- that is, if either Thompson or Gingrich enters the race.

....

Gingrich has said he will announce whether he will run in September, while Thompson has said he is eyeing a presidential bid and will appear Wednesday on Capitol Hill with about 50 GOP lawmakers who would support his candidacy. (Watch how Reaganesque politics, cancer could affect Thompson's chances )

....

On the Democratic side of the ticket, Sen. Barack Obama has slashed Sen. Hillary Clinton's lead to single digits, according to the poll, but not because support for the former first lady is waning.

gouliani already faltering? I hope mccain is the nom, I really, really do. With him, we get to make 08 a referendum on bushco. I wanna see this image splattered all over the airwaves, over and over again:

1. It's a year and a half away.
We'll see hradlines that "polls say races tighten". And we'll see headlines that say "polls say leads are lengthened"

I think the polls are silly now.

2. Which candidates are sucking at the NRA's teat this week?
Bad timing to be in bed with the gun industry.
