19 more advertisers ditch Glenn Beck
by ColorOfChange

Tue Oct 06, 2009 at 11:00:00 AM PDT

Great news today in our campaign against Glenn Beck. We're announcing that nineteen more of Beck's advertisers have stopped supporting his show. That number includes two British companies who just announced that they've pulled their ads from the UK broadcast of Beck's show after hearing from customers.

Two companies--Waitrose (the British supermarket chain) and Metropolitan Talent Management--pulled their ads not only from Beck's show, but from Fox News in general.

Over 280,000 of us have now called on advertisers to stop supporting Beck's show. We are keeping Beck isolated and making sure that he continues to be a financial liability for Fox. Eventually, Fox will have to explain why they are continuing to give Beck's race-baiting and fear-mongering a platform even as it hurts their bottom line.

ColorOfChange's diary :: ::
Here's the full list of new companies ditching Beck: AmMed Direct, Citrix Online, Concord Music Group, Diageo, Eggland's Best, Equifax, Eulactol USA (producer of Flexitol), GetARoom.com, Hoffman La Roche (maker of BONIVA), Metropolitan Talent Management, ooVoo, Overture Films, Scarguard, Schiff Nutrition (maker of Tiger's Milk and Fi-Bar), Seoul Metropolitan Government, Subaru, Toyota-Lexus, Waitrose and Woodland Power Products, Inc.

Those are indeed some big advertisers. Go to the link to read their responses! Some advertisers are restructuring their contracts with Fox!

1. Does anyone know whether Red Lobster has stopped advertising on Beck?
I like it, but have been boycotting.

30. Started after Letterman
I started boycotting Red Lobster after they dropped Letterman over that Palin joke. Same with Olive Garden. If they do drop Beck, I might reconsider -- at least with Red Lobster, Olive Garden is pretty mediocre, to me. As is Red Lobster, but I live in Oklahoma, and decent seafood places are few and far between.

2. "restructuring their contracts with Fox". . now THAT'S what's
going to crack that nut. If the money leaving Beck just goes around the back door and back into Fox there's no leverage as long as his numbers remain high...

But if the money actually leaves Fox.. well, now we're talkin'.

27. Actually, it does make a difference.
Every avail they have to use to run a spot moved off of Beck is another avail they can't sell to someone else.

Television advertising is a zero-sum game; there are only so many spots in a day.

Almost like it's reverse validation to him, i.e., the more sponsors he loses, the better as it affirms his being right against the World.

8. Different for Murdoch and Faux News.
He makes so much fucking money with the channel that he can support a "loss leader" like Beck for sheer publicity value and RW street cred.

if he gets eyes on the channel that watch before or after his program, then those are still eyes watching and bringing in advertising dollars.

18. So does this guy actually realize he is a total freak?
Honestly, I've been wondering lately if Beck is even halfway for real. Obviously he is a phony, we've
all known that for a long time.

But what I'm asking is: Is he an honest to himself phony? Does he go home to his
wife at night and say to her: "Man, I really did a great job acting today. Some people are so ignorant that they
don't even realize that I'm playing a total ass-clown for money! What an easy way to haul in the mega-bucks."

and beck and company are tools in that endeavor so he's just happy for any advertisement money. From what I've seen and read about what's been passed as fact on the faux noise machine I have to come to the conclusion that whoever in responsible for all those blatant lies need to be looked at for possible treason.

23. Guess that doesn't really matter as Beck came in 2nd for the #2 spot.....
On the program level, "The O'Reilly Factor" was, as usual, the top-rated cable news program, averaging 3.326 million total viewers. Meanwhile, "Glenn Beck" unseated "Hannity" for the #2 spot, averaging 2.670 million total viewers at 5PM to Hannity's 2.372 million total viewers at 9PM. Fox News programs rounded out the top 13 cable news programs for the week.

25. We have discussed the #1 rating before. Fox has agreements and is on "free" cable networks.
I have read many posts where TV's in hotels, businesses, hospitals, ect. are set on Fox. I think this does a lot to put them in the #1 spot. If anyone has any info on this please post.

"Eventually, Fox will have to explain why they are continuing to give Beck's race-baiting and fear-mongering a platform even as it hurts their bottom line."

I have been saying that all along. We can't say it enough! Why after loosing all these sponsors is Fox News still able to keep their golden monkey on the air? We all know the reason! Propaganda 101!

BS manure spreader Glenn Beck is their golden boy of the year if not the decade! He brings all the crazies to their door and those that want to see the carny idiot spread his hate filled message.

bad publicity is better than no publicity...So Beck becomes a novelty act, a freak show....Great for Fox ratings and ratings means dollars....Roger Alias will NEVER get rid of Beck. And Murdoch trusts and loves Alias.

Alias hates democrats with a passion, anything to piss them off and he's ecstatic and Beck pisses Dems off like no one else on television....Beck will stay and it'll all blow over, sometime, and Beck will continue to make a fortune...like it or not!

37. Falling apart? I don't think so.
Beck's show is the fastest-growing in cable news, with an unmatched increase in viewers since its May 2006 launch. His audience is the second-youngest of any show on CNN or CNN HN and exceeds U.S. averages for income and education.

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/cnn/glenn_becks_gq_65326.asp

Forbes Magazine estimates that Beck made twenty-three (23) million dollars in 2008 with a very likely increase to that amount in 2009~2010. His web-site is estimated to generate three (3) million annually, and Fox pays him two (2) million annually. The rest is from book sales and his radio program.

http://hubpages.com/hub/Glen-Beck-Thumbs-his-Nose-at-Hybrids

Yes, Glenn Beck is "Is Falling APART." LOL. If making $23 million last year is falling apart, then I wish I could fall apart.

And Fox News Channel isn't hurting either.

The FOX News Channel (FNC) operating income, as compared to the prior year, increased 50% for both the fourth quarter and the full year, primarily from increased affiliate revenues. For the full year, FNC primetime ratings were up 45% compared with the same period a year ago.

And Fox News continues on a ratings tear this week. On Monday night and again last night, FNC beat the combined prime time averages, in both Total Viewers & A25-54 viewers, of MSNBC and CNN.

40. Here's the deal. We need to quit giving this guy what he wants and that's
FREE PUBLICITY. Ignore the ignorant! Boycott to your hearts content but where one advertiser leaves, another one will take it's place. Especially with the ratings and viewership numbers he is putting up.

In my travels and observation, every airport, YMCA, other public areas I go into it seems I ALWAYS see CNN. Rarely do I see Faux snooze in any of them. FWIW.
