Amy Suskind says women should consider backing Palin in 2012
And here are her "reasons" why:

http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-10-04/should-women-back-palin-in-2012/full/

...

I am a lifelong Democrat who for the first time in my life voted Republican in the 2008 elections. I did this for one reason: McCain selected a woman as his running mate. For this act, I was accused of having lost part of my mental faculty: Some circa Victorian act of "voting with my uterus." Strange, that. The Democratic women were corralled to vote for Obama in 2008 because of one issue: reproductive rights. In other words, as my friend Cynthia Ruccia observed, "voting with their uterus."

Sadly, for women, things haven’t panned out all that well with this administration. Despite receiving 56 percent of women's votes, President Obama's record on women's issues thus far is sparse, and suggests something that he either has a tone-deaf nature—or, if you’re inclined to a more sinister view, that he may be uncomfortable with women.

He surely hasn't surrounded himself with many. Of his 24 Cabinet picks, only six were women. Perhaps even more telling are President Obama's czar picks, which do not require Senate confirmation. Of the 35-40 picks he’s made to date, only three have been women. That’s less than 10 percent.

...

Here's what we know: Sarah Palin did not have a governor's seat handed down to her, she earned it. She understands what it is to be a woman having to fight obstacles—some overt and others subtle—that only a woman can understand.

I know I'll hear from critics who claim that Palin would not share my policy views. But what makes them so sure? As governor of Alaska, didn't Sarah Palin appoint Justice Morgan Christen, who is pro-choice and a former board member of Planned Parenthood, to become Alaska's second female Supreme Court justice? Granted, it’s only 2009, and we are three years away from the next presidential election. But doesn’t that give us ample time to open a dialogue and explain why women's issues are so important to our country's future?

Secretary of State Clinton has become a beacon of hope for women around the world in reducing violence against women and girls. Why couldn't Palin do the same for women in the U.S.? After all, don't the vast majority of women's issues impact all women, regardless of political party?

As president of The New Agenda, I'll be the first to raise my hand, and ask Palin to address two important issues: First, what will you do to increase representation of women in government: starting with your own administration if elected? And second, what concrete steps would you take to reduce violence against women and escalating teen dating violence?

Let the negotiations over the 2012 campaign—and the battle for women’s loyalties—begin!

(I wonder how she thinks things woulld have panned out for women under a McCain administration.)

"Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton Together To Honor Women"

Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton shared a stage for the first time today at a State Department event honoring recipients of the International Women of Courage Award.

One year ago, Clinton was still battling Obama's husband for the Democratic presidential nomination. But today, the Secretary of State and first lady exchanged pleasantries during the event in the Benjamin Franklin Room.

"Now I know a little bit about the role that Michelle Obama is filling now," Clinton said. "I have to say that in a very short time she has, through her grace and her wisdom become an inspiration to women and girls, not only in the United States, but around the world."

Obama said she just loved calling Clinton "Secretary Clinton" -- no doubt it beats "Madame President."

"The woman who is running this department, this big huge effort, has always been such a committed person, friend, supporter, to me," Obama said. " We are honored and thrilled to have her serving in this role. She set the bar high in her last post. And I'm confident that she's going to keep setting the bar high in this post."

This is pretty weak. The fact that she switched parties to vote for McCain because he had a female running mate should immediatley disqualify Amy Suskind from being taken seriously as a political commentator. She is a total idiot.

21. Funny? Amy doesn't mention Sarah's beauty-contest appearance in 1984?
She understands what it is to be a woman having to fight obstacles—some overt and others subtle—that only a woman can understand.

I wonder what "obstacles" Sarah had to overcome? Perhaps her second-place showing?

I believe participants of beauty contests reap advantages as well, "some overt and others subtle."

So, DU women, what obstacles did you have to overcome after your participation in a beauty contest?

How many would be "enough" for you, Amy? How about 100%? Would that be enough? Or would Obama need to get himself a sex change operation too, in order to get your vote?

And how do you feel about pay equality, Amy? Because ONE of these two candidates addressed it at length during the campaign, while the other (you know, the one YOU voted for) remained strangely silent on the issue.

Just from this article, I've determined two things about Amy: 1) She was a PUMA. Absolutely no question about it. 2) She probably sees an aging Phyllis Schafly and sees a void that needs to be filled (translation: screw integrity........KA-CHING KA-CHING!!!)

And to think, I actually own one of this twit's books. Guess who won't be buying any more. Congratulations, Amy, you just relegated yourself to the no-man's (literally) land with Joe Lieberman, where the righties won't accept you and don't trust you because of your Democratic background, and the lefties don't want you anymore.

Yes, I'm sure Obama has no regard for women and/or is uncomfortable around them. He only goes home to THREE of them EVERY NIGHT. I think he might be more sensitive to women's issues than you would like to think. Try living every minute of every day in a house filled with nothing BUT women. You become cognizant of women's issues REAL fast.

Also, I seem to remember a woman VP candidate... hmm, let me think now, who was it? Oh right: it was Geraldine Ferraro, selected by Walter Mondale in 1984 as his vice presidential running mate. As a lifelong Democrat, I wonder, did Ms. Suskind vote for that ticket?

Now as for the "voting with your uterus" thing. First off, it is news to me, and I am sure to many others, that "Democratic women were corralled to vote for Obama in 2008 because of one issue: reproductive rights". Speaking for myself, I voted for him for a number of reasons, including but not limited to reproductive rights.

If all she wanted was to vote for someone with a vagina, there was another woman in the race: Cynthia McKinney -- an actual (gasp!) progressive Miss* Siskind wouldn't need to press on such issues as violence against women, etc., in the first place.

And I doubt Miss Siskind was voting with her uterus; she was voting with her head, all right -- which is lodged firmly up her ass.

Well, if you claim to be politically astute, saying "I'm going to vote for the idiot woman because she's a woman" would certainly cause people to question your basic political values, if not your sanity.

Strange, that. The Democratic women were corralled to vote for Obama in 2008 because of one issue: reproductive rights. In other words, as my friend Cynthia Ruccia observed, "voting with their uterus."

Indeed. Who were these foolish women who voted on actual issues rather than the gender of the candidate?

No, a bunch of retarded rednecks in a retarded redneck state voted for her because they were a bunch of retarded rednecks. And by the way, SHE QUIT. She ain't governor of anything any more. Let. It. Go.

I know I'll hear from critics who claim that Palin would not share my policy views.

No. Palin has never actually asserted a coherent policy position on anything, because she's a fucking idiot.

But what makes them so sure?

Well, reading the stupid things she writes and hearing the stupid things she says, for a start.

As governor of Alaska, didn't Sarah Palin appoint Justice Morgan Christen, who is pro-choice and a former board member of Planned Parenthood, to become Alaska's second female Supreme Court justice?

State supreme courts have almost no authority over abortion issues. This is irrelevant. Jesus Christ.

Granted, it’s only 2009, and we are three years away from the next presidential election. But doesn’t that give us ample time to open a dialogue and explain why women's issues are so important to our country's future?

39. amy amy amy -- you're an idiot
Let's play your game.

Yes, Obama has appointed six women to his cabinet (out of 20 spots). Bush, who is a reasonable surrogate for what McCain/Palin would've done, appointed four in his first term and another four in his second term. So in just the first term you have a 50 percent improvement.

And as for the courts, which president made his first appointment to the supreme court a woman? And which replaced a woman on the court with a man? You can look it up Amy if you pull your head out of your ass.

Sticking with the courts -- in the first year of his presidency, 27 percent of chimpy's judicial nominees were women (24 percent for the court of appeals, 29 percent for the district courts). President Obama -- thirty nine percent of his first year judicial nominees have been women (37.5 percent court of appeals, 40 percent district court).

Oh yeah, the appointment of Morgan Christen to the Alaska Supreme Court? Score a point for Palin. But then, deduct a point for Palin bailing out on her job knowing that if she had stuck around, she'd have gotten to fill another vacancy on the court (Justice Robert Eastbaugh announced in april he was retiring in November) and could have possibly appointed another woman, giving the court a 3/2 female majority. But writing that book and baking cookies or doing whatever the hell it is that palin does was more important, apparently.

So, Ms. Suskind, my suggestion is that you try to sober up before you opine on who would be better for women.

43. How about we vote for the person most qualified for the job regardless of gender or race?

62. Thanks for the snark, but I was referring to the idea that women should vote for some one simply
because they are women, or black, or Latino etc. But I'm sure you know that.

44. total bullshit
Palin is a disgrace to women.

She is stupid, anti-intellectual, a dirty campaigner, believes in WITCHES attacking Christians...

ANY WOMAN WHO VOTES FOR PALIN IS AN ENEMY OF ALL WOMEN.

-- because Palin embodies the WORST of America, whether male or female.

55. That's the second time I've seen witches referred to in this
thread. What's that about? Sarah is on a witch hunt?

58. There's video somewhere of Palin and her cult doing some magic trick or something...
I forget the details - cult spellcasting all looks pretty much the same.

59. Thanks.
I did a Google search. Apparently her preacher was praying for her protection against witchcraft. Weird.

64. Yeah, There Was A Video That Surfaced During The Campaign
Keith Olbermann played it almost every other day. It was Sarah Failin' at her church, being "blessed" by some visiting minister from Africa. She's asked to kneel and hold her arms out, and she sits there looking like she's going through a very powerful and life-altering experience as this minister casts some kind of spell to protect her from witchcraft. It's all very bizarre.

49. Palin would do for women what * did for the economy and world peace.
If Amy is truly dedicated to improving the lives of women, voting Republican is antithetical to that.

63. She's an idiot if she thinks that McCain would have been better and even dumber to think that Palin
is remotely qualified (despite being a woman--or is she?).
