Tomorrow, it seems to me, is a one word day: WHY?
Tomorrow will mark the 8th anniversary of the Bush invasion of Afghanistan. The mission, as stated then, was clear: Kill or capture bin Laden.

Most of the country, including me, saw that as justifiable. I suspect, for most of us, that was simply a misguided emotional reaction to what had happened just a few weeks earlier.

Many spent the intervening time appalled at the bushies. At the morphing mission statements, the installation of the dapper marionette, Hamid Karzai, at the deaths and maimings. At the ultimate abandonment of the place for one they really wanted to get into.

Who knows where bin Laden is?

Who cares?

Is he even relevant? Is he even alive??

And yet, as we enter the ninth year of this latter day Viet Nam-like quagmire, as we continue down the same path that contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union, we watch as the Obama administration debates the issues. And that is whether to send in 10,000 more future dead guys or 40,000 more future dead guys. Whether to kill another 100,000 civilians or 500,000 civilians. Whether to erase 10 villages or 100.

And so, while some of us will be looking at great pictures of our beloved president and saying "wow", others of us will stand silent and ask WHY?

WHY?

5. another question, where is that 'proof' asked of Blair and Bush
Edited on Tue Oct-06-09 12:27 PM by Whisp
proof they said they had that the taliban/bin laden were involved in 911.

I don't think it was ever revealed because it didn't exist. No one persued that because 911 was fresh and no one wanted to be 'insensitive' so the war just happened as planned.

6. Heck, the Taliban offered to hand OBL over for trial without proof
All we had to do was stop the invasion and blowing the country and her people up.

7. Osama Bin who?
Oh yeah, the scary figurehead who was the Bush regime's Darth Vader. I remember that guy. Not to be confused with Saddam Hussein.

Welcome to my world! :hi:

But thanks for trying. This thread has done this all day. Some people here work VERY hard to keep certain discussions out of the public eye.

13. The answer- jobs (etc.)
Edited on Tue Oct-06-09 01:14 PM by Gregorian
There is only hype to justify running around after a single man with billions of dollars. Or even a group of men. Even I can almost fall for the elimination of the Taliban. But then the more I learn about why they exist, I realize trying to kill them is futile. Anyone with a brain can see that. We are to a very large degree a military economy. From the rubber on the wheels to the planes that fly the meals.

It's an untouchable footing of our country in this time. Both from the fact that people believe we must be "safe", to a phony concept of justice and revenge, to the very frightening thought that we simply must continue the military manufacturing machine. It's a sad testament to the foolishness of people who cannot see or feel or think. And to the greedy without morals.

Jesus was right about some things. And so was FDR.

15. No, the purpose of invading Afghanistan was to kill Al-Qaeda.
That was the main reason for going to that country.
