Dunno when she's gonna run out of steam and just go back to singing.

(And, yes, she CAN sing, behind all the theatrics)

19. I imagine you're being sarcastic.
I've been watching SNL from its beginnings in the '70's youngster!! The cast they have now should kiss the original cast's feet!! It has been going to shit for years. If you want to watch real humor, go back and view old SNL episodes from the '70's and '80's. It seems they try too hard for a laugh now and just fall flat. Also you may want to catch some "In Living Color" from the early '90's. Edgy, cutting and hilarious stuff.

But I've haven't seen a single Fey/Palin skit. I travel the world in my job and am often out of touch with the electronic noise and bullshit. I will sometimes not watch television for months on end!! I heard they were funny, however. I'll have to get over to youtube someday when I've got a day or so to waste and have a look.

BTW, I challenge anyone to go without television for a month or more and then tune back into it. You'll gain a whole new perspective on stupid.

32. He didn't even do the Obama mannerisms
let alone try to imitate Obama's voice.

Of course, the material he was given was pretty lame. Trying to say Obama hasn't done anything could eb kind of funny except for the fact he's accomplished more in eight months than nearly all presidents accomplish during their entire terms.

15. Lady Gaga is a very talented, impressive young woman with many talents.
She has an excellent voice. She's a well trained musician and accomplished pianist. She was a successful song writer before creating her own career as a performer. And she's 23 years old.

She's got a number of huge dance hits, and she's one of the hottest acts out there right now.

20. I'm just wondering??
If she has an excellent voice, well trained, an accomplished pianist and a successful song writer, then why does she need all that weird shit? I don't know much about her, but if she is all you say she is, she would be much better off without the bizarre acts and costume. I can understand though, that she may trying to make make some artistic statement with these antics?? If she is impressive as you claim, I'd like to see her perform with all the creepy weirdness and see for myself how good she really is as a singer, and musician.

22. So that people will talk about her.
She isn't the model or classic beauty type -- so not quite MTV ready according to vapid industry standards.

So, the gimic schtick is for paparazzi attention and press, and to then get on award shows.

And, if you missed last night, although she had donned some weird, space-orbit-like getup, she sat down at a piano and sang soulfully and gently, minus all of the synthesizers and backup music. I was astounded at what a good musician/singer she is.

She's been playing piano since age 4, and as her ending set showed, she's got both the skills of a pianist and a singer with a strong, powerful, soulful voice.

23. Did you see her perform in the last ten minutes of the show?
She did sit down at the piano, play wonderfully, and sing in a manner more typical of Nora Jones than Lady Gaga.

She's 23 and she's already a success at songwriting, performing, and being a cultural icon to a number of big city bohemians.

There's nothing creepy about her. Why do you react so strongly to her bizarre costumes? She's heavily influenced by David Bowie and Queen. It's art, and it isn't supposed to be the same as every singer that pleases you.

Someone sees her do a song on SNL, and they hate her because she's so over the top. Like Queen wasn't. Like David Bowie wasn't.

When one rejects too quickly youthful talent, it's more a reflection on the old dog who can't learn new tricks.

I thought her rings of saturn were going to malfunction, leaving her trapped and unable to continue.
That would have been simultaneously amusing and embarrassing.
Her smile at the piano indicated she was having a minor industrial mishap, but then she pushed up the rings and continued.

If it weren't for SNl musical guests, this old codger would have no idea what's going on.

a voice.

As to her "shtick," Queen, Elton, Ozzie and nearly every heavy metal or glam rock band you can think of used outrageous costumes as part of their artistic persona.

Additionally, she is an accomplished pianist with an incredible vocal range.

I think this one's gonna be around for a long time.

It's not possible to get that consistent of a sound with a handheld mic while you are jerking your body around like she was.

Also, you'll notice how fast she was breathing at the end of the song. There's no way you can support a phrase with decent tone when you're over 35 breaths per minute.

She has accurately calculated that most of her fans are more into the spectacle than the music.

70. Lip-synching is much more common than people realize.
Ashley Simpson was one of the few to be caught doing it. You're right that most people are more interested in the show and spectacle rather than the actual music. Sad, really.

74. Consider me duped, I suppose
Though after I watched the VMA performance I checked out the original recording and noticed there were differences. I suppose she taped a "live" version for the show.

But then, I think of the broadway shows I've seen, especially Les Misérables where there are some pretty physical performances by the actors all while singing. I never noticed anyone out of breath while performing.

71. The demise of rock & roll
in the 21st Century. It's not the music anymore it's the performance. Can anyone imagine Stevie Nicks or Janis Joplin performing like this? When the music sucks, show some skin. How sad.

73. Bland, mediocre pop music is a good vehicle for her performance art.
I can't stand the music but like watching her live performances.

I like it when artists mock their unwitting fans.
