Bill Clinton Promotes Tourism in Haiti
Former US president Bill Clinton, visiting Haiti in his capacity as a United Nations special envoy, wrapped up a two-day trip with a call for tourists to visit the Caribbean country.

"I love this place. It's wonderful. I see the potential," he said as he visited Cap-Haitien, on the country's north coast.

With infrastructure improvement, such as better roads, visitors from the United States and elsewhere would be able to experience what Haiti has to offer, he added.

Haitian children would benefit too, he added, by being able to "learn about the greatness of their country's history."

1. That would be pretty close to the bottom of my list of places I want to go.
Just below hell.

And Detroit.

10. Thank you, I was kidding, sort of. I actually kinda like Detroit, at least as much of it as I can
remember...it seems to make me real drunk for some reason. :D

13. I've been to Haiti..Love it,.. and would go back too
the problem is that Cap Haitien is and always has been gorgeous, but Haiti needs massive help ELSEWHERE..like in the neighboring towns..
It's like saying Malibu is fantastic ..it is, but then there is Compton & Watts

Haiti needs a HUGE reforestation project and something for those males from 13-35 to do, besides kill each other..

14. What Did You Like About Haiti, SoCalDem?
Personally, I like nothing better than being in a shabby obscure place, especially if it's cheap. So Haiti actually sounds like a reasonable trip.

My parents visited outside Port-au-Prince a few years ago on some kind of church program and had a really good time. They came back raving about the people.

15. Mostly the people.. Everyone we met was just wonderful
We hiked up to the old fort on the mountain top.. This was a long time ago though, before the recent troubles.

It reminded me a lot of some places in Panama..very poor but proud people, and at the time, there was still some of the vegetation intact.

It's sad what several years of shitty government can do to a country.:(

We spent a little time at a gorgeous resort in Cap Haitien.. but I like the hustle & bustle of little towns & villages.

I am a traveler who has always liked to travel without maps, or pre-planning. I like the uncertainty and am always ready to do an alternate plan:)

2. Yeah, they can go see the slums and shgitholes firsthand and maybe make America do something
all at the same time that they run a wonderful risk of being kidnapped and held for ransom.

6. I think Bill Clinton may be trying to help Haiti, but it is not a great place to 'holiday'
By all means, go to Haiti and HELP the people, but they need a LOT MORE than tourist dollars.

7. Now if he promoted reforestation eco vacations, he might have something.
Otherwise, I'd just as soon stay on the Dominican side, thanks very much.

8. I was there twenty years ago.
It was the shithole of the hemisphere back then, and it seems to have gone down since then.
